When she noticed us nuzzling our noses was turning into soft kisses and lingering touches, she called it a night.

“I’ll take the baby. It’s time for you two to really get your night started. Have fuuuu-uuunnn.” She stood up with our child in her arms and backed away, making the baby wave a pudgy little hand, winking at us right before they disappeared.

I leaned into Byron’s ear and whispered, “Your mom wants us to get it on.”

He slapped at my chest, laughing. “Don’t be gross, Trev.”

“What? She does.”

“Probably wants more grandkids. How fast does she expect me to pop ‘em out?”

I stood up and pulled him up with me. We slow danced to no music. “As fast as possible, probably. Truth be told, I’m not against that.”

“It’s not like we can’t afford ‘em. We could have a whole house full.”

“And we’d be so happy. I want that for us, husband.”

“Now that we’re together, there’s nothing I want more, husband.”

“I love the way that sounds. We’ve come a long way, Baby. Can you believe we used to hate each other?”

Byron laughed as he swayed in my arms. “Uh, yeah, I can, actually.”

“I was a prick, wasn’t I?”

“You sure were. I didn’t help things, though. I was a prick sometimes, too.”

“It’s too bad we couldn’t have started this much sooner, right? Me you, our daughter, your mom?”

Byron leaned his head on mine in the way I had come to love. “I think about it sometimes, but I don’t regret it. I think everything happened the way it should have. You were right on time, Trev. Right on time.” I lifted my face to kiss my mate, and we swayed like that, happy, in love, and together.

Forever.
