Shelby moved forward and hooked her arm through Remy’s elbow. “Remy’s already got a woman in his life.”

Delighted that Shelby had stepped in, Remy slid his arm around Shelby’s waist and smiled down at her. “That’s right. I already have a woman. A beautiful one at that.”

“Hmmph.” Lissette tossed her long braids over her shoulder. “If you like boring women who know only one position. I, on the other hand, would make your life exciting and positively unforgettable.”

Shelby’s lips pressed together.

Remy’s arm tightened around Remy’s waist. “I’ve lived exciting and unforgettable, some of which I wish I could forget. It’s exhausting. I want real and lasting with memories that make me smile. I want a life with a woman who makes my heart race and my breath catch when I see her standing across a room.” He looked down into Shelby’s eyes. “I have everything I want and need.”

Lissette lifted her chin and stared down her nose. “Good luck with that. Not everything turns out as you expect.” She turned and entered Gisele’s store.

LaShawnda stared at the door Lissette had disappeared through. “That girl needs a come-to-Jesus reset.” She faced Remy and Shelby. “Thanks again. I hope you have a beautiful day.” The realtor spun on her stiletto heels and returned to her office.

Shelby sighed. “Lissette’s drama exhausts me. Shall we get on with our investigation?”

“Yes, ma’am.” He pulled out his phone. “Let me make a call first.” He called Hank.

Hank answered on the first ring. “Montagne, how’s Miss Taylor?”

“Better. She’s starting to remember but hasn’t been able to remember the incident that landed her in the hospital.”

“The sheriff’s department have any leads?”

“Not yet. I need you to have Swede do a background check on a few people.”

“Who’ve you got?” Hank asked.

“Ethan and Simon Fontenot, Lissette Gautier and Thomas Sanders.”

“On it,” Hank said. “Anything else?”

He told Hank about the near miss in the bayou.

“So, she’s still being targeted,” Hank said. “I’m glad you’re there. The guys left yesterday in a caravan of trucks and SUVs.”

“Which brings me to a bit of good news,” Remy said.

Hank chuckled. “Always appreciate good news.”

“The bank accepted the offer on the boat factory and the owner selling the boarding house agreed to our offer as well.”

“That is good news. I’ll have Swede check into contractors. You focus on resolving Miss Taylor’s situation. Swede will get back to you as soon as he has a chance to look into those names. He’s still working on getting more information from the DEA about the Colombian Cartel. He’s trying to get pictures of prominent individuals who’ve been spotted in the US recently.”

“Anything he can come up with could help,” Remy said. “In the meantime, we’ll look for the boat that rammed Shelby’s.”

“That could be like looking for a needle in a haystack where you are,” Hank said.

“We have to start somewhere,” Remy glanced at Shelby. “A boat doesn’t come out unscathed when ramming another.”

“True,” Hank said. “Good luck.”

Remy ended the call and looked at Shelby. “Let’s go.”

She led the way to the truck, slid into the passenger seat and waited for Remy to climb in behind the steering wheel. “It might be faster to do our looking around by boat.”

“Agreed.” Remy aimed for the marina.

Marceau had a bass boat available. After he gassed it up, they left the marina and headed straight for Ethan’s place. The community dock had an assortment of boats, none of which were Fontenot’s air or bass boats.
