He grinned. “I tell you I love you, and you say thank you?”

“Well, I’m about five hundred I-love-yous ahead of you. I don’t hold it against you. But I’m just saying.”

“I love you,” he said again. And pressed her back against the couch. “I love you. I love you.”

They didn’t get easier with each passing declaration. They seemed harder. Rougher. And she loved him for it. Even more than she already had. Even more than she thought possible.

And it only grew.

Alaina McCloud had always been proud of the way she landed on her feet. But now she was happy to have fallen into his arms.

And she always would be.

EPILOGUE

“IT’SABOY.”

Gus was torn between looking at the tiny, screaming bundle, and his wife, who was sweaty and exhausted from hours of labor.

“A boy,” he said, feeling suddenly light-headed.

“You have a son,” she said, smiling up at him. And suddenly, these two people were all he could see. All he could see in the whole entire world. Nothing else mattered. Not the things that had hurt him in the past, and not anything they might face in the future. Because they had love. Stronger than anything he’d ever felt before.

“I was thinking,” she said. “We can name him Cameron. Cameron McCloud.”

“Perfect,” he said.

And he didn’t mean the name. Though, it was a fine name. But he could’ve named the kid anything. Because this moment was the best moment of his entire life.

Angus Evander McCloud was an immovable object once his mind was made up. And his mind was made up.

He loved Alaina McCloud. And he loved this child. And he would protect them, care for them, with all that he was.

He had thought for so long that he didn’t have feelings. But here they were. Every feeling. More feelings than a man could possibly contain.

He wasn’t his father. He wasthislittle boy’s father. He was Alaina’s husband. He wasn’t an abandoned son. He was a man with brothers who cared for him. He was a man with a family. And those were the things that mattered.

The only things. From now to forever.
