And he turned and walked out of the room, out of the house. And he left her standing there with her dress still open, and everything in her feeling raw and bloody and exposed.

And how dare he?How dare he?He had stripped her naked, and he had stripped her of all her inhibition. And then he had left her there. He had taken her apart, bit by bit. And he’d left.

And then he acted angry. He acted angry at her. How dare he.

And she wasn’t going to let him run away.

She was going to find him.

She turned the oven off and stormed right out of the house. Buttoning the remains of her dress up as she watched the taillights of his truck and got into her own.

Angus McCloud was a coward, and she wasn’t letting him get away with it.

CHAPTER ELEVEN

GUSPULLEDHIStruck up to one of the cabins and let the vehicle sit there and idle.

He had messed up. Big-time.

He found the edge of his control, right when he’d been so aware of how badly he needed it.

He... He’d messed everything up.

He’d come right at her, unleashed all that pent-up hunger on her.

He shifted, his body still hard as a crowbar. Okay. He hadn’t unleashed all of it.

But he’d touched her. And she’d been like silk between her legs. So hot and glorious, and wet for him.

Not to mention those gorgeous curves of hers. He’d been in heaven. Her body was better than he’d ever imagined. Sweeter than anything he could’ve ever dreamed of.

She was a wonder. A revelation.

And he...

He wasn’t supposed to know that.

It was supposed to stay very deep, a burning bright ball of desire, regret and anger in the center of his being, and someday, he would die. And he would never, ever have to deal with it. Not ever.

That was what he wanted.

That was what he needed. He got out of the truck, and went into the cabin. He flicked on one of the lights, and looked around. There was a bed and there was beer, but it would be a decent enough place to stay the night while he figured out what to do. While he got his head on straight.

He’d made Alaina a whole lot of promises, and he’d broken a few of them.

Mostly, just promises to yourself.

Yeah. There was that. But he’d been mean to her. And he’d made her cry.

And he’d have to deal with all that tomorrow. It was the best he could do.

Granted, right now, the best he could dowasn’t much.

He sat down on the edge of the bed, then lay back, stretching out on it, staring at the ceiling.

And that was when the cabin door was flung open.

“All right, you yellow-bellied, lily-livered pile of horse manure, how dare you do that and leave me?How dare you? Were you trying to prove what you accused me of earlier? That I’m just a grasping, horny slut who can’t control herself? Did that make youhappy, Gus? To embarrass me like that? And then walk away, because you don’t even want me, and you don’t even care?”
