“I’ll text the number so you can add it to your contacts. He’s up all hours of the night and can probably be there faster than the cops if anything happens.”

I have no doubt about that.

Once we hang up, I quickly save Isaac’s number, then start thinking about a way to maybe thank him for all that he did last night and today in returning my car.

And maybe I also want one more shot at tempting him into touching me before Lyla comes home.

It’s stupid and probably won’t work, but I want to try.

I liked having his attention on me. His fierce protectiveness was really hot. Even his constant scowling couldn’t make the intimidating man unattractive. In fact, I’ve been waiting my entire life for someone to take care of me the way he did last night without asking for anything in return.

And since Isaac already has opinions about me being too promiscuous and still couldn’t look away last night, I may as well try to live up to the label.

Isaac

I gave your number to Holly. Hope you don’t mind.

“What the fuck,” I mutter as I reread Lyla’s text over and over again. I’m calling her a second later. This is bad. Really fucking bad. What if she starts calling me or, worse, sends me dirty pics? I couldn’t survive that sort of shit.

“Hey, Dad.”

“Hey, baby girl,” I reply, trying to rein in my temper and not take out my weakness for Holly on Lyla. “Why in the world did you give that girl my number?”

“I didn’t think you would mind. Is it that big of a deal? Holly sounded freaked-out about the guy possibly showing up at her apartment.”

“She’s got new locks,” I grit out.

“I know. And that’s good and all, but did you find him? Kick his ass?”

“No,” I huff. “Little shit wasn’t at the chop shop. None of the others knew where to find him either.”

“Then Holly’s not worrying for nothing, right?”

“I…I guess not.”

Dammit. I fucking hate the idea of her sitting alone in that town house scared to death she’s gonna get robbed again, or worse, he’ll come back pissed because I took back his loot. My gut and dick are already urging me to take my ass downstairs and get on my bike to go check on her. My head knows that’s the worst idea ever, which is all that’s keeping me sitting in my office chair.

“I thought it would be easier for Holly to call you directly if anything happened,” Lyla explains. “It’s not like I can do anything to help from New York.”

“How are things going up there?” I ask to change the subject and because I want to see if she’ll hint at dropping out.

“It’s fine. Classes are great.”

“Good. I’m so proud of you, baby girl.”

“I know,” she says with a heavy sigh. “Maybe I should come home this weekend to check on Holly.”

“Stay. She’s fine,” I snap, knowing that if she comes home tomorrow, Sunday, then she probably won’t get back to New York for her Monday classes she’s already struggling to pass. “You’ll see her in a few weeks during spring break, right?”

“I guess…”

“Look, baby girl, I’ve got work to do. Talk to you soon, okay?”

“Okay. Bye, Dad.”

“Love you. Bye,” I tell her before she ends the call.
