“That’s good because I doubt the baby can afford the rent,” Brooke says, making me puff out a laugh. “You could even get a crib with wheels and put him or her in my room when you need a break to get some sleep.”

“Thank you,” I tell her with a smile. “I’ll have to look into getting a rolling crib.”

CHAPTERTWENTY-FIVE

Holly

For the next several days, I stay distracted from baby issues because I’m having fun catching up with Lyla after work. I’ve missed living next door to her room like we did in the dorms, so it’s nice having her around, even if it means not having Isaac around.

I wasn’t even sure when she might go back home until a big, hot guy with tats shows up at the door asking for Lyla.

And I didn’t eavesdrop on their conversation from the top of the stairway to be nosy. I just didn’t want to leave Lyla all alone with the biker. Barrett Fulton, apparently. A member of the Savage Kings MC, the club that Isaac loathes.

“What are you doing here? How did you get this address?” she asks him, followed by a long silence.

“Your father gave it to me,” he eventually answers.

“You’ve talked to my father?”

“Well, he didn’t give me much of a choice.”

“What do you mean?”

“You need to go home, Lyla.”

“What?”

“Please go home. Your father is furious that you left.”

There’s a long pause while Lyla puts together what’s going on. “Oh my god. You’re here because he thoughtyoucould convince me to move back home?”

“Yes.”

A puff of nonhumorous laughter floats down the stairway. “Well, the answer is no, so you can leave now.” It sounds like she opened the door for him.

“Please, Lyla. Your father is fucking insane. He kidnapped our prospect and said that he can’t come home until you do.”

Isaac kidnapped someone? What the heck?

“He did what now?” Lyla asks, sounding as shocked as I am.

“Isaac kidnapped our prospect. He’s just a kid, only eighteen years old. RJ’s his sponsor, and he’s sort of like my brother Colt’s stepson. They’re holding him at the Devil Hounds’ clubhouse right now. Thane is there too.”

Not just someone. Isaac kidnapped a teenage boy. What is wrong with him?

“I can’t believe him!” Lyla exclaims. “The man has obviously lost his mind!”

It’s stupid to think that I could have something to do with him losing his mind and his shit.

“So, will you go home? Please?” Barrett asks.

“He kidnapped a friend of yours to force this. I hate having to give in to him!”

“I know you do. It’s messed up,” Barrett agrees. “But Lyla, I don’t know what else to do. Could you just go home until he lets Jordan go? Then you can do whatever the hell you want.”

“I guess…I guess I can do that,” she agrees.

“Thank you,” he says in a huge sigh, sounding incredibly relieved.
