“I can handle that. I’ve got my hands full lately anyway with my baby boy and new wife,” I tell him. “Thank you.”

“Congratulations to you both.”

“You knew at that meeting, didn’t you?”

“We did some quick surveillance right before we showed up here to make sure nothing had changed. I thought you should know. I missed my wife’s entire first pregnancy and didn’t get to meet my son until months after he was born. I came close to never meeting Liam, which is impossible to imagine.”

“Seems like it all worked out for you, though.”

“It did,” he says. “Thanks to my brother, all of my brothers in the Savage Kings. I wouldn’t be here without them.” Torin heaves a heavy sigh as if reliving the past and says, “So how is the patch treating you? Honestly?”

“Honestly? I don’t have any complaints. You all backed up every promise, and Remy isn’t as big of an asshole as I thought he would be.”

“He takes his position seriously.”

“Yeah. I guess I was surprised when he and his brothers didn’t just fuck off and party all the time. Some of my guys were disappointed, but the bar is always crowded and full of women lately.”

“So Greer mentioned. Another thriving Savage Kings establishment,” Torin replies. “Oh, I forwarded you a message a minute ago from Reece, the man who handles our electronics and surveillance. I want you to call him later. He took care of that ‘Joe’ issue we had discussed during our negotiations.”

“Well, that’s…I mean, it’s a relief, but damn, I didn’t want him…”

“Ha, no, man,” Torin reassures me, clapping his palm on my shoulder. “I just meant we warned him that when he got loose, and his crew fucked right off to a more populated area. I mean, we’ll fucking end him if he shows back up around here, but hopefully, after what you did to him and our warning, he’ll stay gone.”

“Good, good, that’s what I wanted to hear. That’s more like the organization I thought I was joining. Thanks, Torin.”

“Take care of yourself and our men.”

“Will do,” I agree.

As soon as he walks away, Holly comes over, our baby boy, Ethan, sleeping on her shoulder.

“Hey, sweetheart.”

“Everything okay?” she asks.

“Everything’s great,” I tell her, giving her a lingering kiss on the lips and then our son a kiss on the top of his blue beanie cap. “I’ve been promoted.”

I show her the patch inside the box.

“Oh wow! That’s great, Isaac!”

“Seems like everything worked out for the best. Now I feel like a jackass for fighting it.”

“Fighting the Savage Kings or me?” she asks with a smile.

“Both. Definitely both.”

For twenty years, I was stuck in the past, refusing to change, to move forward. I still think I deserved to be a miserable bastard all those years. But now? Now, I’m lucky to have this second chance, not just with Lyla but with Holly and Ethan too.

And I’ll spend the rest of my life loving them, protecting them, and never taking a single moment for granted.

The End
