Lost. It got me lost in a sea of decisions that weren’t my own.

The first decision I made for myself was to leave Rhode Island. The second was to stop in Colorado. And so far, so good.

Don’t stop now.

“Kennedy?”

Jenny’s voice pulls me from my thoughts. “Huh?”

“What’s it gonna be?”

What’s it gonna be? What’s it gonna be?

The better question is, do I want to keep living my life in the shadow of what’s expected of me, or do I want to live a life that makes me happy?

What’s it gonna be?

“Let’s do it.”

Chapter9

Dip

“That went well.”

I glare at Duck, who’s sitting on the stool next to me and smirking.

“Woulda gone better if you weren’t such a prick,” I snap.

“You’re just pissed because your girl was here, and you weren’t prepared for that shit,” Snow drawls.

“My girl?”

“Face facts, brother,” Duck says. “You’re a goner.” He bobs his eyebrows. “And if the way she looked at you is any indication, the feeling is mutual.”

“Stuff a sock in it,” I mutter.

“No tha—”

“Kennedy!”

Jenny’s shout pulls my attention, and I hop off the stool. Before I can take a step, Snow grabs my arm and yanks me back.

“What do you think you’re doing?”

“Jenny just shouted,” I say. “What if something’s wrong?”

“Fuck me,” Snow grumbles. “If something were wrong, she’d yell again.”

He’s right. I know he’s right. But the split second of fear that smacked me upside the head threw any chance of rational thought out the window.

I plop back onto the stool and rest my elbows on top of the bar. “I wish they’d hurry up.”

“What the hell is wrong with you?” Duck asks, slapping me on the back. “I’ve never seen you so twisted up over a chick before.”

I’m saved from answering when the door to the kitchen opens and Jenny and Kennedy walk out. Both their gazes land on me, but the giant grin on Jenny’s face is a far cry from the look of unease on Kennedy’s.

“We’ve talked it over,” Jenny begins when they’re standing across from us. “And we’re in.”
