“You were married for a decade, and you’re a virgin?” Despite the awkwardness of the question, there’s surprisingly no judgment in his tone.

“I’m not a virgin,” I tell him. “But I’ve only ever been with Michael, and that was… not fun.”

“I take it Michael was boring as fuck.”

I can’t stop the snort that escapes, and Dip smiles. “He was in his fifties when we got mar—”

“Holy shit, his fifties?”

“Yep.”

“There’s gotta be a story there.”

“Not one I want to get into right now.”

“Okay, but… Are you sure he’s dead? You’re not running from an abusive husband, are you? There’s not gonna be trouble barking at your heels?”

This is the first hint of hesitation I’ve seen from him, and it makes me question my sanity.

“Yes, he’s dead. No trouble following me, unless my parents decide it’s worth their time and energy to track me down,” I snap. “But then they’d have to admit to the church that their perfect daughter is no longer falling in line like she’s supposed to, so I don’t see that happening.”

“There is so much to unpack in that statement,” he says and presses his finger against my lips when I open my mouth. “But it can wait.”

“Thank you.”

“And I’m sorry if I upset you.”

“It’s fine.”

“It’s not, but my club is my life. They’re my family, and I’d need to warn them if there was a shitstorm coming their way.”

“No shitstorm.”

Dip grins again. “Really fucking good hearing you swear.”

I smirk. “I’m trying. It’s hard to break a lifelong habit of goodness and obedience.”

“And that’s where I come in.”

Wait… what?”

“Huh?”

“I’ll help you, Kennedy.” Dip cups my cheek. “I’ll teach you my sinful ways… in the bedroom and out of it. But I have conditions.”

There’s always conditions.

“What are they?” I ask, narrowing my eyes at him.

“First, if we do this, there will be no other men.”

“Okay. But then no other women.”

“Done.”

“What’s your second condition?”

“That one’s a bit trickier.”
