“What the fuck happened?” he demands as he closes the distance between us in three long strides.

“Over here, brother,” Toga calls from the corner.

“Who the hell is that?” Dip asks as he stares at Bryce, who’s now conscious.

“He’s an ex-employee,” Jenny explains. “Wasn’t too happy about Kennedy replacing him.”

“Motherfucker!” Dip rushes to the corner and hauls Bryce to his feet before slamming him against the wall. “Did you hit her, you stupid sonofabitch?”

Bryce shakes his head. “No. Of course, not. I would never hit a chick.”

You’ve got to be kidding me.

Brady smashes his elbow into the side of Bryce’s head. “Stop lying,” he growls.

Dip shakes him. “I’m only going to ask you one more time… Did. You. Hit. Her?”

Bryce says nothing, and Dip shoves him at Brady. “Take him back to the clubhouse. I’ll be there as soon as I can.”

“Uh, D,” Toga says. “We’ve only got our bikes.”

“Take my Jeep,” Jenny says. “You can either bring it back, or I can find a ride and pick it up later.”

“You sure?” Dip asks, and she nods. “Thanks.”

Brady and Toga drag Bryce through the bar, snagging Jenny’s keys as they pass her. Dip returns to my side.

“Did you call the cops?” Dip asks.

“No. Your boys handled it,” Jenny informs him. “Besides, figured you’d want to handle it yourself.”

“Damn right about that.”

“I hate to break this up,” I say, my entire skull throbbing. “But I’d like to see a doctor now.”

Dip eyes me from head to toe. “Is it just your face that’s hurt?”

I shake my head, and black spots dance in my vision. “No. Wrists too, from the fall.”

“Goddammit,” he mutters as he scoops me up into his arms gently, careful not to jostle me too much. “Jenny, lock up the bar behind us. Spark and Magic are still working on the cameras outside, but I’ll tell them to stop for the day. I’ll have Little Man come back at four-thirty to help you prep for opening, and he’ll work the bar with you tonight.”

“I can handle the bar, just go.”

“I’m sure you can, but I’ll feel better knowing there’s someone here with you.”

“Shelly’s on tonight, so I won’t be alone.”

“I’m still sending him,” Dip insists.

“Fine. Just keep me in the loop. I wanna know how she is.”

“I’m right here,” I say.

Dip rolls his eyes. “I’ll text you later and let you know how she made out.”

“Thank you, now go.”

Dip carries me outside. He quickly tells his brothers to stop working and head to the clubhouse, but he doesn’t go into too much detail. One look at me in his arms and an ice pack on my face, and they get the picture.
