“Thank Jenny.”

I roll my eyes. “Thank you, Jenny.”

She grabs my hand and pulls me toward the bathroom. After handing me the bag, she pushes me inside. “Change and see if it fits before you go thanking me.”

I close the door and peek into the bag. Dumping the contents onto the closed toilet lid, I sift through them and notice every item has a tag on it.

Yanking open the door, I glare at her. “Did you just buy all these?”

Jenny shrugs. “I bought them for my date with Little Man, but I’ve got plenty of things to choose from and want you to have them instead.”

“Jenny,” I cry. “I can’t do that. These are you—”

“You can, and you will. Now go fucking change.”

Sighing, I close the bathroom door and do as instructed. Jenny thought of everything. There’s a green lace bra and panty set, both in my size. The jeans fit me perfectly, almost like a second skin, and the black top with silver threaded throughout conforms to my curves. The black leather jacket is short, barely skimming the waist of the jeans, and the tall black boots add a few inches of height.

I glance in the mirror, grinning at the woman staring back at me. I look… sexy. I’m not a vain person, but I’ve always been happy with my appearance. It just never felt right showing it off in sleek evening gowns and designer suits. But this… this look feels amazing.

It feels like me.

Opening the bathroom door, I rush toward Jenny and throw my arms around her neck.

“Thank you,” I say, sniffling.

She hugs me back, but then steps away and takes in the outfit. “He’s not gonna know what hit him.” She grins. “I’ll be surprised if you two make it out of the apartment at all.”

My smile widens, but before I can get any words out, my cell phone pings. I grab it from the table and see the text from Dip.

Dip: Can’t wait to see you

“I’m gonna head out,” Jenny says. “I still have to get ready for my date with Little Man.”

“Thank you again, so much, Jenny.”

“Anytime, honey. That’s what friends are for.”

“Have fun tonight.”

She bobs her eyebrows. “You too.”

And then she’s gone so I reply to Dip.

Me: Can’t wait to see you too

For the next hour, we text back and forth. He’s flirty and fun, and I fall for him a little more with each word he sends.

When I first left Rhode Island, I had nothing in mind but getting away from all the bullshit and starting over. Then I saw Dip and without even realizing it, everything changed. He’s made it pretty clear that he wants whatever is between us to be real, to be long term. I’m hesitant, but then again…

What if you find exactly what you never knew you wanted?

I wasn’t looking for Dip. I was looking for me. And he’s helping me find the woman I am, the woman I want to be.

And I want to be her… with him.

The last hour goes by quickly as I apply my makeup and curl my hair. After one last glance in the mirror, I stroll out of the apartment and head downstairs to wait for him in the bar. I’m sure there’s some code or rule that says a man should come to your door, but I’m too excited to stay upstairs.

Right on time, I hear the rumble of his motorcycle, and butterflies flit about in my stomach. My excitement morphs into nerves, but not the bad kind.
