Kennedy starts to avert her gaze, but when I growl, she sighs and stares me straight in the eyes. “Yes. I do talk about us,” she replies, all prim and proper like. “Do you have a problem with that?”

I shake my head. “Nope. As long as it’s all good.”

“Trust me,” Jenny chimes in as she rests her head against Little Man’s bicep. “It’s all good.”

“Do you talk aboutus?” Little Man asks her.

Kennedy snorts. “So much so thatIknow your dick is pierced, and I’ve never even seen you naked.”

Little Man grins and puffs his chest out. “Yep. And I know exactly how to use that piercing too.”

“Okay, this has gotten way outta hand,” I snap, although there’s no heat in my tone because I’m trying too hard not to laugh.

The waitress shows up just then and takes our order. While we wait for our food, I decide to dive into the conversation I’m dreading.

“Kennedy, I actually wanted to talk to you about what happened tonight at the bar,” I say.

“There’s nothing to talk about. It happened, it’s over.”

“And from what I hear, that twatwaffle won’t be a problem anymore,” Jenny adds.

I glare at Little Man. “I didn’t tell her anything I shouldn’t, I swear.”

Jenny rolls her eyes. “He didn’t, Dip. Promise. All he said was she’s no longer a problem. I don’t know why or how, but I have a brain and can imagine. And good riddance if you ask me.”

“Yeah, well, we still have her fuckingboyfriendto worry about,” I explain. “He managed to slip away, and we don’t know how big of a threat he is.”

“Isn’t that what the security system is for?” Kennedy asks.

“It is. But you don’t just work at Barlow’s. You live there.”

“And?”

“And I want you to come stay with me until we find the prick.”

She narrows her eyes. “Why?”

I glance at Little Man for help, but he simply shrugs. Jenny isn’t worth a damn either because she’s grinning like a fool.

“Because I don’t want you to be caught alone, and I can’t be there all the time. And the thought of you getting hurt sends me into a tailspin,” I admit. “I’d just feel better if I knew you were tucked in at night in my bed and not a Harley ride away.”

“Okay.”

“And the doors and locks on that apa—” I press my lips together as her acceptance registers. “Okay?”

Kennedy shrugs. “Yeah, okay. I’m not all that interested in staying at the apartment anyway. Even if there weren’t a threat, I like being at your place. It feels right.”

“Just like that?”

“Yep. Just like that.”

Chapter24

Kennedy

“Why don’t you come stay with me for a few days?”

Stabbing the speakerphone icon, I set the phone on the counter and start to gather all the ingredients to make dinner. I’ve been at Dip’s for two weeks now, and we’ve settled into a routine. Too bad it doesn’t include me getting to spend a lot of time with him.
