“That was Jenny. Little Man never made it to the bar.” He takes a deep breath and frowns. “Neither did Kennedy.”

Chapter26

Kennedy

TWENTY MINUTES EARLIER…

“Sorry, Kennedy. Not trying to be a dick.”

“It’s okay, Little Man. Is everything okay at Barlow’s?”

“It’s fine. Spark texted me on my way here that the camera aimed at the back lot is out, so I’ve been trying to fix it. And Jenny got a wild hair up her ass to open early, so the place is packed, and I’m stuck outside. I haven’t even seen her yet.”

I chuckle at his annoyance. It’s hard to tell whether he’s more upset about not seeing Jenny or the camera, but of which suck I suppose.

“I’ll be there soon. I’ll park out back so you don’t have to stop working and come escort me inside.”

“Thanks, Kennedy.”

“See ya in a few.”

I disconnect the call and stomp on the gas. If Jenny opened early, why didn’t she tell me? I would’ve come in sooner.

Maybe she’s too busy.

When I reach Barlow’s, I see what Little Man meant. There are zero empty spaces out front, and several people spill out onto the sidewalk as if there’s not enough room inside to enter. I turn down the alley toward the back lot, but when I park the Corvette, I don’t see Little Man.

Getting out of the car, I scan the lot, searching for him. He’s nowhere in sight. Maybe he went inside to help Jenny, since clearly we’re busier than I’ve ever seen it.

As I walk to the back entrance, I dump my phone and keys into my purse. Just as I reach for the handle, an arm snakes around my neck, and a hand clamps over my mouth.

“Don’t even think about screaming,” a man whispers against my ear. “Slowly take your keys back out of your purse. We’re going upstairs.”

He drags me up the steps as I thrash against him and struggle to break free. It’s useless though because he’s much stronger than me.

“Stop fighting me, you stupid bitch,” he snarls as he slams me against the apartment door. “Unlock it,” he demands.

I fumble with the key to fit it into the lock, my hands shaking. When it’s finally inserted, I twist the knob, and the man shoves me inside, sending me tumbling to the floor. I scramble to my back and lobster-crawl away from him.

“Who are you?” I ask as he slams the door and locks us inside.

And when he turns around, I know. It’s Minnie’s boyfriend. ‘That fuck’ has found me.

“I’m the guy who’s going to make that biker cunt pay for killing my girlfriend,” he barks.

I dart my eyes to the other door, debating on whether or not I could get away from him, but he grabs my arm and drags me to the bed.

“Go ahead and scream,” he taunts. “The music is so fucking loud, no one will hear you. I made sure of that.”

“What did you do?”

“Social media is great for spreading the word about a party, isn’t it?”

“You’re why it’s so busy?”

“Of course, I am. Barlow’s Bar couldn’t draw in this many people on its own.”

“Where’s Little Man?”
