Page 101 of Wrathful Malice

Despite my irritation and hesitation about the duet albums, I’m going to be a team player until I hear back from Jim, the attorney Cece’s friend, Carmella, recommended.

Tim has the car waiting for Kyle, Sydney, Mara, and me when we’re ready to leave for the day, and we all thank him again for the opportunity before we’re whisked back to the hotel.

“Are you gonna come celebrate with us tonight?” Sydney asks.

“Yeah, come on, Apple,” Mara encourages.

“It’ll be fun,” Kyle chimes in.

I chuckle at their enthusiasm. “I already promised Mark we’d have dinner.”

And Malice that you’d call him.

“Oh, maybe another time,” Mara mumbles.

“Definitely tomorrow,” I promise. “All I want to do tonight is order room service and stay in. I don’t know about you guys, but I’m beat.”

“Yeah,” Sydney agrees. “A lot of excitement. The adrenaline crash is coming.”

“After a few drinks.” Kyle winks.

When we pull up to the hotel, Kyle is the first one to climb out of the car, and he holds out his hand to help each of us. A wave of dizziness hits me right as I put my foot down on the curb, and my stomach rolls when I push to my feet. I take a deep breath through my nose and blow it out through my mouth.

Dammit, I can’t be getting sick again.

“You okay?” Kyle asks, concern in his voice.

I plaster a smile on my face. “Yeah, I think so.” I steady myself before walking toward the entrance. “You guys have fun tonight,” I call over my shoulder as they head to the hotel restaurant.

“See ya tomorrow!” Kyle hollers, and the other two wave.

Once I’m in the elevator, I lean back against the wall for support, suddenly beyond exhausted. The doors open, and I walk slowly to my room. As I fiddle with the keycard, trying to get it to scan, a hand rests on my arm.

“What are you doing?” Mark asks.

“Where’d you come from?” I counter.

“I saw you walking through the lobby and called your name, but it was like you didn’t hear me,” he says. “Now, I repeat… What are you doing?”

I wave the keycard in his face. “The damn key isn’t working.”

Mark takes it from me and holds it against the scanner until the light turns green. Then he looks at me with a raised brow. “Works just fine.”

I stomp past him and throw myself on the bed.

“You alright?” he says as the door swings closed behind him.

“No… yes. I think so.” I sit up and rest on my elbows. “I was getting out of the car and got really dizzy, and my stomach felt off. Now I’m super tired.”

“You’ve had a lot going on.” Mark sits next to me on the bed. “You had pneumonia, then Stella broke down, Jason and Travis showed up out of nowhere, and now you’re in LA doing a demo with a major record label. It’s no wonder you’re exhausted.”

“You’re right,” I concede. “Ithasbeen a lot.”

“How about we order room service and binge-watch Supernatural instead of going out?”

“Best friend ever,” I groan, unable to express just how thrilled I am at the prospect. “I’m gonna throw on my pajamas while you order the food.”

I just need a good night’s rest. I’ll be better in the morning.
