I tucked everything under my armpit and ran inside the house, with Luna hot on my heels. She knew something good was happening, so she ran upstairs and then quickly returned with a towel. Apparently, she’d been paying attention during our sexy times and knew we always needed a towel afterward.

I’d need to talk to Harris about getting her a bed outside of the room to wait for us to finish. Or maybe she’d like to be in the closet for a little while every night. I took the towel from her and let her kiss my cheek. “Thank you, girl. That’s very helpful.”

Tossing the towel aside, I carefully opened the letter and held my breath.

My driver’s license.

I’d never had one before, even though I had learned how to drive when I was ten, so Harris helped me with the paperwork needed to get my license. It was something I always equated with freedom and independence, and now I finally had it.

Thanks to Harris.

Just then, the front door opened, and Harris came inside. “Hey, baby. I’m home.”

I smiled and held up the little plastic card. “I got it.”

Harris was beaming with pride as he scooped me into his arms and held me. “I’m so proud of you.”

The kiss he gave me was slow and soft, not meant to lead to anything else. Just a transfer of his love to me.

“Thank you for making it possible.”

“Let me take a look at that.” He held the card up to the light, as if he needed to take a closer inspection. “It looks good, but I think they messed up one thing.”

“They did?” I yanked the card out of his hand and read every line, looking for the typo. “Where?”

“Right there.” He pointed to the line with my name on it. “It says Jesse Kramer.”

My name was spelled right. I took a step closer to the lamp, holding it up to the light like Harris had, as if that would make the error more apparent to me. “What’s wrong with it?”

When he didn’t speak, I turned back and saw Harris down on one knee with a ring in his hand. “I think it should say Jesse Martins. What do you think?”

My hands flew to my open mouth as the driver’s license was long forgotten. I dropped to my knees at the same time tears dropped down my cheeks. “Yes!”

I choked back a sob as Harris pulled me against his chest. “You’ll really marry me and be my boy forever?”

“Yes, Daddy!” I kissed every inch of his face, laughing and crying as I did it. “Yes, infinity.”

Luna quickly appeared, licking away my tears before she grabbed the towel and tossed it at Harris’s face. “Geez, what’s with the towel?”

I choked back a laugh and used it to wipe my face. “Oh yeah. We need to talk about that.”
