Jessie gasped, her eyes widening in shock. " What the fuck?!"

Vito's jaw tightened, his fists clenched with a mixture of anger and determination.

"This shouldn't be possible. The security measures here are ironclad. How did this happen?"

I nodded, my voice trembling as I spoke. "That's what makes it even more unsettling. It's like they knew how to bypass our defenses."

Vito's eyes flickered with suspicion. "Could it be an inside job? Someone with knowledge of our security?"

I swallowed hard, my mind spinning with possibilities. "I don't know, Vito."

I wasn't sure of what happened next.

All I could hear was Vito calling Dante to inform him of what happened and Jessie rubbing my back in an attempt to calm me.

Dante's voice resonated through the phone as Vito dialed his number, his tone filled with urgency and anger.

"Dante, it's Vito. We have a serious problem. Angela just found a severed hand at the front door. This is a direct threat, and I suspect it might be an inside job."

The line crackled with tension as Dante's voice echoed through the receiver.

"I'll be there immediately. Stay calm, Vito. We'll get to the bottom of this."

Relief washed over me as Vito ended the call, his eyes meeting mine with determination.

"Dante's on his way."

I nodded, finding solace in his words.

********

The sound of Dante's approaching footsteps broke through the tense atmosphere, and the door swung open to reveal him, his eyes burning with fury.

At that moment, I felt a surge of relief.

He enveloped me in his arms, his touch offering both comfort and a sense of security.

"Mio caro,I won't let anyone harm you. We'll find out who's behind this and make them pay."

I buried my face in Dante's chest, seeking comfort in his arms.

I was grateful that Dominic had already gone to sleep otherwise, I wasn't sure how I would have taken it had he seen such a disgusting thing.

As I clung to Dante, my mind flashed back to the threatening text I had received earlier in the day.

Dante won't be able to save you.

Were they right?

Chapter 32

Thesightofthesevered hand sent shivers down my spine, stirring a potent mix of anger and concern within me.

As I held Angela close, my mind raced with thoughts and questions, searching for answers amidst the chaos that had descended.

The audacity of such an act bewildered me.
