Yet, I couldn't let fear consume me.

I had a duty to my patients, to provide them with the best care possible despite the turmoil that plagued my mind.

I reminded myself that I was surrounded by skilled medical professionals who shared the same commitment to saving lives.

We were a team.

As the day wore on, I focused on each task, finding solace in the familiarity of medical procedures and the gratitude of patients who found comfort in my care.

Their smiles, however brief, provided a reprieve from the dark thoughts that threatened to overwhelm me.

But deep down, I knew that the severed hand incident had changed something within me.

It shattered my sense of security.

I couldn't simply brush it aside and pretend that everything was normal.

The wounds ran deeper than what was visible on the surface.

In moments of quiet reflection, when the chaos of the hospital subsided momentarily, the memories of that horrifying discovery would resurface.

The sight of the severed hand, the weight of its implications, would gnaw at the edges of my consciousness.

As I was diligently working at the hospital, my mind preoccupied with patients and medical charts, my phone suddenly rang, jolting me out of my focus.

I glanced at the screen and saw it was Dominic's school calling.

A sense of unease crept over me as I answered the call.

"Hello?" I said, my voice filled with anticipation and worry.

"Angela, this is Mrs. Brown, Dominic's teacher," a shaky voice responded from the other end of the line.

My heart started to race as I sensed the uneasiness in her voice.

"Yes, Mrs. Brown. Is everything okay?" I asked, my voice trembling slightly.

There was a momentary pause before she finally spoke, her words hitting me like a punch to the gut.

"We can't find Dominic. We've searched the entire school, and he's nowhere to be found," she said, her voice filled with concern.

My breath caught in my throat as panic consumed me. "What do you mean you can't find him? He was at school this morning," I replied, my voice shaking.

"I know, Angela. We've checked every classroom, every corner of the school. We've alerted the authorities, but we wanted to inform you as well," she explained, her voice quivering with worry.

Tears welled up in my eyes as fear gripped my heart.

"I'll be there right away," I managed to say, my voice choked with emotion.

Before ending the call, I asked her to stay on the line and keep searching, hoping that Dominic would be found safe and sound by some miracle.

I hurriedly gathered my things, my mind racing with thoughts of Dominic's safety.

Dante's face flashed in my mind, and I knew I needed him by my side in this moment of distress.

I dialed his number with trembling hands, praying that he would answer.

"Dante, it's Angela. Dominic is missing. The school can't find him," I managed to say, my voice breaking with a mixture of fear and desperation.
