I understood that Dante had taken steps to ensure our safety and had been relentless in his pursuit of the culprits.

He had shown determination and bravery, and I admired his resilience but I couldn't shake off the lingering fear that something else could go wrong, that our lives would forever be haunted by the shadows of the past.

As I packed our belongings and prepared to leave, a fleeting thought crossed my mind.

I wondered where Dante's mother was, as she had been absent for a while, presumably handling some important mafia business on behalf of Dante.

But I quickly dismissed the curiosity, realizing that dwelling on such thoughts held no significance anymore.

Our paths were diverging, and I had to focus on the new chapter ahead, leaving behind the questions and uncertainties of the past.

I sat across from Dante, my heart heavy with the weight of my decision, I took a deep breath and mustered the courage to speak my truth.

"Dante, I've been thinking a lot," I began, my voice steady but tinged with sadness.

"And I think it's best if Dominic and I leave. "

He looked at me, his eyes filled with concern and a hint of panic.

"Leave?Mio fiora, please don't leave. We can work through this together."

I took a deep breath, not wanting to be swayed from my decision.

"Dante, I can’t prioritize my feelings over Dominic’s safety. Look at what happened! We were kidnapped, Dante!”

As I remembered the events, frustration started creeping into my voice.

Dante's brows furrowed as he reached out to hold my hands, his grip firm and pleading.

"Angela, I understand your fear and concern, but I will do everything in my power to protect both you and Dominic. We can't let fear dictate our lives."

I looked into his eyes, seeing his sincerity and determination always drawn me to him.

But I knew deep down that it wasn't enough.

"Dante, I know you would do anything for us, but the truth is, I can't live in constant fear and uncertainty. I can't bear to see Dominic grow up with this dark cloud hanging over us."

He sighed, his voice filled with a mix of frustration and resignation.

"I never wanted this life for you, Angela. I never wanted to put you in harm's way. But please, let's find another way. Let's find a solution where we can be together, where we can keep Dominic safe."

Tears welled up in my eyes as I struggled to find the right words.

"Dante, I love you, and that's why I have to do this. I have to prioritize our son's well-being. Maybe, in time, things will change, and we can find a way back to each other. But for now, I need to take this step."

His grip on my hands tightened, his eyes searching mine desperately.

"Please, Angela, reconsider. Our love is strong, and we can overcome any obstacle. We can't let fear tear us apart."

I shook my head, tears streaming down my face.

"Dante, I wish it were that simple. But I can't ignore the realities of our lives. I can't ignore what happened to us and the risks that come with being with you. Dominic deserves better, a life without constant threats and danger."

Silence hung in the air as we both let the weight of my decision settle between us.

It was a painful choice, one that tore at my heart, but I knew it was the right one.
