I decided to play it safe.

"Thank you, Isabella. I appreciate your offer."

Isabella sat back, her expression unreadable.

"Well, it's always good to have someone to talk to. You never know when you might need a listening ear."

I nodded, trying to suppress the unease that was building up inside me.

But even as I stood up, I couldn't shake off the feeling that Isabella was hiding something, that her probing questions were not just innocent small talk.

"I should go and check on your husband’s vitals," I said, forcing a smile.

"Of course, dear. Don't let me keep you from your duties,"

Isabella replied with a polite smile, but her eyes still held a hint of suspicion that sent shivers down my spine.

As I left the room, I couldn't help but wonder what secrets Isabella was keeping from me and whether they had anything to do with my troubles with Dante.

*******

I was currently in my room pacing the floor, thinking about the impending talk I and Dante were later going to have today.

Dante had sent a message fifteen minutes ago, telling me he was on his way.

I was brought out of my reverie by a knock on my bedroom door.

When I opened it, it was none other than Dante who was holding a bouquet of my favorite flowers and a warm smile.

"Get dressed. We're going out on a date," he announced, handing me the bouquet.

I stood still, shocked at the sudden turn of events.

I couldn't help but feel a little suspicious, knowing how tumultuous our relationship had been in the past.

But something in his eyes made me feel a bit of hope, coupled with the fact that he remembered my favorite flowers despite the years that had passed.

“Don’t worry. Everything will be fine.”

My nerves calmed down at his words.

It seemed that we were going to be okay.

At least, I hoped so by the end of our talk.

We arrived at a fancy Italian restaurant, and I couldn't help but feel a little underdressed in my casual attire.

But Dante seemed unfazed as he led me to our table.

As we looked through the menu, Dante cleared his throat.

"Angela, I want to talk to you about something."

My heart sank a little.

I had a feeling I knew what was coming.

Even though I had been feeling hopeful, I still couldn’t stop feeling nervous and apprehensive.
