She laughed and smacked him on the shoulder. “Dr. Dereck Johnson. Are you asking me out on a date?”

Dereck brushed his hair with his hand. “I guess I am.”

Alina opened her apartment door, slipping inside while staggering. When she was secured in her apartment, she threw out the words, “Then I guess I’ll go,” before closing the door.

Alina knocked on the apartment door several times before she heard movement inside. “Why do you keep knocking?” Her friend’s voice came across as a rough warning before a large thud.

“Taylor, are you okay?” Alina shouted from behind the door before putting her ears to the wooden material.

Suddenly the door swung open, and Alina had to scamper in order to prevent herself from falling forward into her friend. Taylor glared at her with half-closed eyes as Alina took in her state. Though it was mid-day she was dressed in a skimpy two-piece, one that Taylor believed was pajamas. Alina called it lingerie. In Taylor’s braless state, most of her breasts were exposed and the cut of the shorts was too high to be considered pants.

“Where were you last night?” Alina scolded her friend, who simply released the door, bypassing every room in her apartment to crawl back into bed, covers and all. Alina closed the door behind her and followed her friend.

Taylor was completely consumed by the covers when Alina walked into the large room.

“You ghosted me last night and I demand to know why! Or better yet with whom, since you obviously went out drinking.” Alina said.

Taylor simply stuck her head out of the covers. “Shh,” she placed a finger on her lip. “Don’t shout.”

Alina moaned her dissatisfaction as she pulled the covers from her friend, who struggled to retrieve her shield.

“I’m not leaving you alone until you tell me what you were up to last night,” Alina demanded.

“Fine,” Taylor said, and jerked the covers away from her friend. She snuggled under the covers, leaving only her head outside. “I was at the bar last night.”

“Which bar?” Alina asked.

Taylor moaned. “I’ll tell you as soon as you bring me a bottle of water.”

Alina groaned and stamped her way out of the room. She returned with a bottle ofFijiand chucked it in Taylor’s hand. Taylor slowly cracked the seal and took a big drink.

“No more stalling, Taylor,” Alina barked. “Where were you?”

Taylor rolled her eyes. “I told you already. I was at the bar.”

Alina rubbed her face with her hand. “Which one Taylor?” Taylor was the one avoiding the questions, but she had the audacity to act annoyed.

“Tipsy. Where else?” Taylor responded.

“No, no, no,” Alina waved her finger. “I was at Tipsy all night and I never saw you.”

Taylor kept her voice low, but Alina still caught her words. “Maybe if you weren’t fawning over Dereck, you would.”

Alina shouted. “How do you… You were there?”

Taylor drank the last of the water and rest the empty bottle on the nightstand. “That’s what I’ve been telling you.”

“But…” Alina was lost for words.

Taylor breathed out hard and sat up on the bed. “Okay. So when I came to the bar, I noticed you and that hunk of a man…” Taylor made a sizzling sound. “… chatting away. So I simply diverted to my aunt’s office upstairs where I could keep an eye on you two.” Alina’s friend’s excitement showed on her face. “I remembered Lee from that night when we all hung out, so when I saw him enter the bar, I knew he was there to meet Dereck. And hence interrupt you two, so I quickly intercepted him and had him call Dereck to cancel. We spent the rest of the night in my aunt’s office enjoying the lovely couple below.”

Alina stared at her friend, her forehead scrunched and nose pushed upwards. “You little witch.” She grabbed a pillow and threw it at Taylor. “How dare you do this to me?”

Taylor’s jaw dropped, “are you kidding? You should thank me. From the look of things, you two hit it off last night,” then Taylor removed herself from her cover and crawled closed towards her friend. “Tell me, what happened when he brought you home?” She winked. “He did bring you home, right? I mean, you were giving the silly grin, he had to take you home.”

“Yes, he took me home,” Alina defended Dereck’s honor. “And not that it’s any of your business, but nothing happened.”
