“I take it you’re not pregnant?” Alina couldn’t help but laugh at her friend’s antics.

“Nope.” Taylor placed her hand on her stomach. “No little leech to suck me dry and disfigure this perfect body.” She used her hand to highlight her curves.

“Well, I’m happy for you,” Alina said as Taylor walked into her closet and came out with a red silky fabric.

“Where are you going?” Alina asked, watching Taylor as she wrapped the dress around her and tied a neat knot.

“We…” Taylor stressed on the word, “… are going out to celebrate. Drinks are on me.”

Alina chuckled. “It’s a little too early in the day for that, isn’t it?”

Taylor looked at her watch. “Hmm. Maybe you’re right. How about a glass of wine with our meal?”

“That sounds good to me,” Alina said, gathering her belongings.

The women arrived at an Italian restaurant about ninety minutes later. It was past the lunchtime rush, so the small restaurant wasn’t crowded. Though not very popular, the women enjoyed the shrimp fettuccine and garlic butter biscuits. The staff was friendly and practically treated them like family. Probably because they usually racked up quite a bit. The receptionist showed them to their favorite table by the window overlooking the small park.

Several minutes later, a young man came over to their table. “Hello,” he said. “My name is Luke and I will be your waiter for the day.”

“Isn’t this Isabella’s section? Is she not here today?” Alina asked, somewhat disappointed by the absence of the woman they had grown fond of.

“She took a day off today,” the young man said. “She’ll be back tomorrow. But for today, would you ladies mind if I serve you?” He was so polite.

Taylor was leaning on the table with her chin on her hand. “You can serve me whatever you want.”

Alina smacked her friend for her forwardness, but Luke didn’t appear phased by Taylor’s comment. Being overly cute, he was probably accustomed to women flirting with him all the time. “Never mind her,” Alina said. “We’ll both have the shrimp fettuccine and a glass of red wine.”

“No problem,” Luke said and hesitated for a second before he went to bring in their order.

“Taylor, I swear. One of these days, that mouth of yours is going to put you in trouble.” Alina shook her head as she spoke.

“Awe.” Taylor stretched her hand across the table to stroke her friend’s arm. “Don’t be jealous, sweetie. You will always be my number one.”

Alina removed her friend’s hand, one finger at a time. “I rather not be. Your friendship always makes people think that we’re a couple.”

“Don’t deny our love because of others.” Taylor was completely engrossed in her roleplay, causing Alina to shake her head again and sigh. Then Taylor suddenly lost her smile. “On a serious note, though. I think our waiter has the hots for you.”

Alina’s head turned to where the young man had disappeared. “Him?” She shook her head again. “I don’t think so.”

“Trust me,” Taylor said, making strong eye contact. “I know when a man is interested in a woman and that man was eating you with his eyes.”

Alina laughed. “He looks no more than twenty-two years old. No way. I’m too old for him.”

“Age has nothing to do with this.” Taylor leaned back in her seat. “I’m telling you; he is interested in you.”

When the waiter re-emerged with a tray with two glasses of wine, Taylor gave Alina a knowing stare. He placed her glass in front of her, initiated eye contact, and smiled. He didn’t even look in Taylor’s direction as he served her.

As the young man turned away from them, Taylor regained his attention. “Can you help us settle a minor dispute?” Alina widened her eyes for her friend, knowing where the conversation was headed, but Taylor waved at her silently. “My friend doesn’t think she is hot enough to attract younger men. I disagree. She is one of the most beautiful women I’ve ever come across and all of it is natural, you know.”

The waiter looked at Alina now, his eyes glowing and cheeks full. “She certainly is beautiful. And I, for one, would feel honored if she went out with me.”

Alina gave Taylor a threatening look before she addressed the waiter. “Thank you,” she said with a sweet smile. “But I’m already taken.”

“Well, if you guys ever split up, you know where to find me,” Luke said before walking away.

When he was out of listening distance, Alina scolded her best friend. “Sometimes you are just too much.”

Taylor waved at her again. “Oh, come on. No harm done and now we know the truth.”
