“That’s kind of the idea.” Dereck sported a wicked grin. “I’m going to make you come over and over again.” Dereck did not ease his movement until he felt Alina convulse around his fingers. Then he stripped them of both of all their clothing and turned her on her stomach before crawling above her on the bed.

He toyed with her ass at first, gently stroking it and relishing the seductive noises Alina made. Then he entered her from behind. He would have loved to forcefully thrust into her, but with her pregnancy, he opted for a gentler entry.

Alina, on the other hand, had no such considerations. She screamed, “Harder,” every time the intensity was not to her liking until finally, Dereck descended from his pedestal, bringing her along with him. This continued throughout the night until they fell asleep in the early morning.

“Just coming in?” Laura raised an eyebrow when Alina entered the kitchen, dressed in the outfit from the night before.

“I went to dinner, mom.” There was annoyance in Alina’s voice. “And in case you forgot, I am not a child anymore.” She didn’t give her mother a chance to counter, placing the takeaway bag on the counter. “Here. Dereck brought this for you.”

Laura peeped into the bag and cooed when she realized what the paper bag contained. “This is just too nice of him. Tell Dereck I said thank you.” Then she paused. “Wait. I’ll tell him myself.” Alina’s mother pulled out her phone. “What’s his number?”

“Oh no. I’m not telling you,” Alina took a step back. “You will harass him all the time.”

“Don’t be ridiculous.” Laura dismissed Alina’s concern. “I just want to thank him for the cake.”

When her mother was like this, it was impossible to win an argument. Still, Alina was not about to give her mother Dereck’s number. “Here,” she said, after dialing the number on her phone. “You can use mine.”

Laura pushed out her lip but put the phone to her ears. “Hello, Dereck. It’s Laura, Alina’s mom. I just wanted to call you personally and thank you for the cake. It’s my favorite.”

“You’re welcome and enjoy the cake.” Dereck was content with his mother-in-law’s appreciation.

“How long would you be in Maryland?” Laura turned away from Alina as the younger woman shifted her weight onto one leg. “I hope you’re not in a hurry to get back to New York.”

“Actually, I’m not sure. I haven’t decided as yet.” Alina peered closer at her mother, attempting to hear Dereck’s voice.

“Well, we’re having a gathering at the house on Saturday. It’s going to be small, just family and close friends. If you’re still here then, stop by. We’ll be glad to have you.”

“I’ll definitely do that,” came his voice through the phone.

“Great,” Laura blurt out and turned towards Alina with a smile. “It starts at three and will run into the night. But you can come over whenever you like.” Laura chuckled. “My house will always be open to you.”

“Thank you,” the masculine voice said.

Dereck was being civil to Laura, but Alina worried that secretly he might be annoyed. “Mom.” She tapped her mom on the shoulder. “You thanked him. It’s time to let him go now.”

She was hoping her mother would end the call, but instead, Laura turned the topic to her daughter. “I just can’t believe this girl. She’s harassing me to give back the phone when all I want to do is get to know her boyfriend. Is that so bad?”

“Well, children are usually embarrassed by their parents,” Dereck tried the soothe the situation. “Don’t take it personally. She’s probably more embarrassed over me than you.”

Laura smiled then. “I doubt that, but thank you for your thoughtfulness.” Laura leaned against the counter, making herself comfortable. “I see why my daughter likes you.”

“Well, I have many good qualities.” Dereck had little experience with mothers, but he definitely knew women. “Your daughter chose well.”

Laura laughed broadly now. “Dereck. What do your parents do?”

Alina was becoming annoyed. She wanted her mother off the phone before she said something to make Alina regret it.

“My parents are virtually retired now,” Dereck said in a modest tone as if his parents didn’t own several five-star restaurants. “They’re entrepreneurs in the restaurant industry, but my sister does most of the work now.”

“Oh, so you have siblings?” Alina couldn’t believe the audacity of her mother. “I have two other daughters besides Alina. My youngest is at college right now.”

“And at the rate she’s going, she’s never going to finish,” Alina mumbled, but luckily her mother was too distracted to hear her.

“I only have Dina…” Alina was forced to listen to the other end of the conversation, which she didn’t appreciate because of the mention of Dereck’s sister.

Luckily, her mother interrupted him before he could continue the conversation about his sister. “Dereck. Sorry, but I’ll have to talk to you another time. There’s a call coming in on the other line.”
