“Take notice? I think they already have,” I said smugly.

“And I don’t mean because you’re sleeping with Flynn,” Rafe said angrily.

I thought to respond to my brother but remained silent. It was clear to everyone in the room that in the previous six months I’d brought more attention and sponsorship money to the Perez team than Rafe had done in all the years before.

“So I just have to show up and look pretty? You asked me here a day early just to tell me that? Text it next time.”

“You’re starting to sound like that asshole,” Rafe said, his eyes narrowing.

“Listen, let’s not argue about this,” Blake said. “We just want to make sure things are in order.”

I turned to Blake. Who would have thought that he would be the voice of reason? I fully expected him to pile on and tell me how horrible Devin was.

“Are we finished here?” I snapped.

“Yes, I suppose so,” Rafe said.

“Good, and Blake, I’d like to talk to you in private. We have some things to discuss.”

His eyes opened wide, and I liked catching him off guard.

“Sure, but I have a commitment this afternoon. Should we meet for dinner?”

“Fine, the hotel restaurant at eight.”

ChapterTwenty-Seven

Luna

At the last minute, I changed my mind about the venue. I was going to have it out with Blake and I didn’t want witnesses, so I texted him the change of plans. A few minutes past eight, Blake knocked on my suite’s door. His hair was wet from a recent shower, and the mild scent of his cologne found its way to my nose, and I tried to ignore the cedarwood mixed with bergamot aroma that filled the air. It was nearly intoxicating. He was smiling sheepishly and poured on all the charm.

“Evening,” he said, sounding very cowboy. “And where’s the mister tonight?”

I wasn’t in the mood for games. Devin was arriving the next day, but Blake didn’t need the details. “Did you read Harrow’s article?” I asked.

“Yes, I did. Did you really get a tattoo?”

“I ask the questions, Blake, and you answer them,” I said firmly. I was taking control of the situation for once. “Sit down.” I motioned to one of the armchairs in the lounge area of the suite.

“I sense some animosity.”

“You’re very astute in your old age.”

He chuckled. “What did I do now?”

I tapped my fingers on the table, trying to keep my cool while still wanting to throttle him. “Did you cooperate with Harrow on that article?”

He frowned. “No, not at all.”

“Are you sure? Because it almost sounded like something you would write.”

“You know, Idowrite occasional articles for a Dallas newspaper, and trust me, they’re better than anything Harrow would write.”

I wasn’t sure I believed him, but it wasn’t like I had any proof otherwise.

“I would appreciate if you didn’t talk to reporters or bloggers oranyoneabout me and Devin.”

“I wouldn’t waste my breath on the topic,” he said, shifting in his seat. Was he getting antsy or offended? “Do you think my world revolves around you and Flynn?”
