“I don’t give him much thought.” Which was a total lie.

Enzo smirked. “Sure. Well, I’ll work on some kind of announcement and maybe find the right way to make this public. Maybe a photo shoot? You and the kid? People love that kind of stuff. The sappier the better.”

I was certain Natalie wasn’t going to let me use her kid as a prop. “Tell you what; you come up with some ideas, and we’ll figure it out.”

“I’ll get back to you.”

Enzo left, and I couldn’t help but think of that number he’d shown me. How much of that money had Rafe squandered? And as much as the idea made me furious, I suddenly understood better why they’d agreed to put Carlton on the team. Maybe having him around for a year would help her recoup some of that money she’d invested in the team. If I could somehow persuade her to cash in, maybe her irresponsible brother wouldn’t ruin her.

ChapterThirty-Two

Luna

Istayed in Sandrine while Devin flew to Rome for his scheduled Russo duties. The distance would be good for us, I thought, because it would help me absorb the news that Devin had a daughter. And to keep my mind busy, I planned for Rafe’s party, which was being held in London this year.

The whole family was invited, and as usual, Mom and Tony declined. She wanted nothing to do with motorsport, and to show up for an event was like an endorsement. Eva would take the children from school for a few days to attend. They would be staying with me in Devin’s home. I’d invited Jess, but she wouldn’t commit to coming. I even offered to fly Elizabeth out, but she declined. Too busy for a trip across an ocean. Besides, she was busy helping Danielle with her wedding, and I figured she probably didn’t want to spend time with Jess either.

The first thing my nephews did was jump in the swimming pool. Eva and I monitored them poolside.

“Devin has a nice little house,” Eva said, emphasizinglittle. She was used to their palatial California estate and the villa they had in Spain. Devin’s place was like a guesthouse in comparison.

“I’d call it quaint,” I said proudly.

Eva smiled. “I can see that you’re happy.”

“I am.”

“Are we going to hear wedding bells anytime soon?” she asked, gently punching my arm.

“It hasn’t even been a year yet!”

Eva leaned in a little closer, a devious look in her eyes. “Rafe says there is another man in your life.”

“Another man?” I said with surprise. “What other man?” What on earth was she talking about, and why was Rafe spreading rumors? Again! Last year he’d tried to stir up interest in our team by claiming I was going to race cars again, something I hadn’t done since I’d been a kid. And now this?

“You can’t keep secrets from me,” Eva said with a smile. “Rafe told me he’s American.”

My blood went cold. “TheAmericanhas expressed an interest, and I’ve put him in his place. I’m certainly not afterhim.”

“Rafe says that you spend a lot of time with this man.”

As if hearing his name, Rafe walked out to the pool. He was sipping a juice and inspecting Devin’s property. “You had a delivery,” he said nonchalantly as he inspected an old tree growing in the end of the yard. “What a small house this is,” he mused.

“What sort of delivery?” I asked, annoyed with my brother. I wanted to push him in the pool for starting gossip.

“Flowers.”

Eva jumped out of her seat. “We must go see them,” she said, taking my arm. “Watch the children, Rafe.”

In the house were dozens upon dozens of red roses. An obscene amount. They covered almost every inch of the first floor of Devin’s house. I finally found a card and quickly opened it. Devin had never sent me flowers before, but it would make sense. I was upset and this was his way of making it up to me. The note read this:

Dearest, Luna, I apologize for my behavior in Austria. Please forgive me.

All my love,

Blake

“Well, who sent them?”
