Sean gave me a reassuring smile. “It’s okay. This is my brother’s house. You know his wife. Jo?”

I sucked in a breath, searching his face. I knew Jo. She was kind, like Gabi. It made me feel a little better if she was here, too.

He nodded. “She was the one who helped me find you. When I got the request for your scans, I called her to ask if Rosalie was your name. She called Gabi, and we went from there.”

I’d never had friends in my life, but I was thankful that they took the time to meet me. Without them, I didn’t know where I’d be right now.

We pulled up around the front, and Sean carefully drew me into his arms to bring me inside. A man in an old-fashioned suit was waiting by the door, a deep frown on his face.

“The guest room is ready, Mr O’Connor.”

He nodded. “Thank you, Marcus. Has anyone gotten ahold of Viktor?”

My heart leapt in my chest. Viktor. I hadn’t allowed myself to think of him much over the past few weeks. It hurt too much. He took such good care of me and the thought of never seeing him again nearly buckled me. I had to put him out of my mind so I could focus on getting away. Now, though, I missed him so much it hurt and I clutched tighter to Sean’s shirt as he marched through the massive home.

“I do believe Miss Josephine is working on that.”

The man led us into a room just behind the stairs. It was big, with a huge four poster bed with light green bedding, a dresser against one wall, and an attached bath. Sean laid me gently on the bed, giving me a reassuring smile.

“Jo’s working on it. That means he’ll be here as soon as possible. Once Jo’s put her mind to something, it gets done really quick. Just rest. You’re safe here.”

He busied himself by helping me get more comfortable. He was just pulling the blankets over my legs when the door flew open and a man I didn’t recognize stormed into the room. He had dark hair, a short beard, and the darkest blue eyes I’d ever seen. They were filled with carefully banked fury as he stalked toward us. I thought Dmitriy was scary, but this man was downright terrifying and I shrank into the bed.

“Who the fuck did it?”

Sean shook his head. “Liam, I’m fine. I–”

It didn’t feel like a good idea for Sean to argue with this man. There was a fire in his eyes that only seemed to burn brighter the longer Sean kept things from him. Desperate to help the man who saved my life, I forced myself to answer.

“C-Carson Sh-Shelby. M-My husband.” I hated using that word for him, but it was the truth and there was no point in hiding it anymore. Liam flicked his gaze to me and I held my breath as he looked me over.

“You’re Rosie.”

Terrified, I could only nod. His brow furrowed slightly before he glanced back at Sean.

“Tell me what happened.”

Sean shook his head again. “No, Liam. I’m fine, I swear.”

When Liam stepped forward, I flinched automatically, thinking he was going to attack Sean. But the room was quiet except for his low murmurs. When I peeked my eyes open, Liam was holding the back of Sean’s head, their foreheads pressed together in a show of affection.

“You’re my brother. Someone hurts you, they fucking pay for it. This is why I told you that you need security.”

Sean sighed, exasperated, and stepped back. “My job doesn’t allow that, Liam. And it wasn’t about me. They were going to take her, and I couldn’t let that happen. I can take a couple of hits. I’m fine.”

Liam made an irritated sound. “Fine or not, the man is dead for putting his hands on you.”

Sean didn’t argue that point. He turned back to me, pulling the blankets up. “I’m going to need to get some things from the hospital. She went through hell to get here, and she needs another IV. But that asshole is probably waiting there, so–”

“I’ll go with you,” Liam replied, his tone final.

Sean turned to argue with him, and a familiar voice interrupted him. “You probably shouldn’t argue with him. He’s been on a rampage since he got the call about you being attacked.” Jo came into the room, marching straight up to Sean and touching his face gently. He softened, smiling at her, and the worried look she’d come in with slowly dissolved away.

“You look like shit.”

Sean snorted. “Thanks, Jo. Did you contact Viktor?”

Her smile fell, and she glanced at me. “I did. But Dmitriy isn’t letting him leave. Not yet, anyway. They’ve been dealing with Koslov and they don't want to draw attention to the fact that Rosie is here. Viktor’s not happy about it, but I agree with Dmitriy. We’ve already got one asshole who can probably figure out where she is. We don’t need a second one.”
