“Don’t be jealous. If you want to fuck, just say so. But you’ll need to get in line.”

His arrogant grin fuelled her temper. Avery placed her hand on his chest and pushed. Hard. Sonny hardly budged.

“I don’t wait in line for anyone,” Avery responded coolly then stepped back. “And I’m not sure there’s enough room in the bunker for me, you, andyour enormous ego.”

“It’s not my ego that’s enormous, baby,” Sonny chuckled as he turned towards the bunker.

Avery’s face heated as she rolled her eyes, stomping off after him.

Sonny and Avery walked a good ten minutes until they reached the bunker, what the club referred to in public as their hunting cabin. It was a just an old shack that served as a lookout and entry point to their underground maze.

He unlocked the door and they stepped inside. Sonny quickly opened the hatch they’d built into the floor. Then it was into the depths, as they shuffled down the stairs, dim lights lining the walls. Three flights until they reached another door. The bunker was actually a series of rooms that they’d built under the compound, with a tunnel that led to the edge of their property. They used it mainly for smuggling operations, but also as a hideout. There was plenty of food and water storage, enough to last for at least six months.

Sonny entered the first room and turned on the lights and Avery blinked at the brightness.

The room was barren, with grey walls and industrial shelving that held all kinds of weapons, bulletproof vests, and night vision goggles. A long steel table with a drain and side bars lay in the middle. Nate had created and modeled the table after something he saw on a forensics show. It was creepy but made for easy cleanup.

On it lay a cell phone and what looked like a few joints, IDs and cash.

“Ray’s?” she asked and Sonny nodded.

Sonny picked up the phone and handed it over to Avery.

While she was busy looking through the tweeker’s text messages, and without warning, she felt cold metal on her other wrist and heard a click. Avery looked down to find her other wrist shackled in a handcuff and tied to the table.

“This isn’t funny. Unlock these cuffs right now, Sonny!” she yelled as she yanked on them but the metal cut into her skin.

Sonny shook his head and smirked. “Sorry, sweetheart. You’re stuck down here for a bit.”

“What the fuck, Sonny? Is this your twisted idea of a joke?”

Sonny sidled up to her and slapped a photo on the table. She was staring at herself. The picture was taken as she was leaving Bikes & Brews, but her face was marked with red ink.

Sonny cupped her chin, forcing her to look into his eyes. “Your safety is not a joke. For once in your life, trust me.”

“You chain me to this table, like one of our enemies, and expect me to trust you?” She tried to move her head, but his warm fingers weren’t letting go.

“If I had told you to stay in the clubhouse until we figured out who sent this picture, would you have listened?” Sonny asked with one eyebrow raised.

Avery shook her head. Just as she thought she was beginning to understand him. “You didn’t, so we’ll never know, will we?”

His gaze lowered to her mouth and damn her body for reacting. Her anger continued to mount as he refused to let go of her. Embarrassment, fury, and desire was a deadly combination. God help Sonny when she got out of here because she would get back at him. She didn’t know how but she had plenty of time to figure it out.

“Gage told me to do whatever I had to, to keep you safe. It’s for your own good. And my sanity.”

Sonny bent down and claimed her lips, his mouth delivering a bruising kiss.

Until Avery bit him.

“Jesus Christ, Avery!” Sonny yelled as he reared back, his lower lip bloody. He swiped his swollen lip with his tongue. Avery tasted his coppery blood on her own lips in turn, savoring the one small victory.

Sonny shoved his hands into her jean pockets, searching her person, but she ignored the way her body reacted to his touch. He gathered up all the items on the table, then grabbed a nearby stool and placed it in front of her.

“I’ll remove the cuffs but you’re staying down here for now. Sit. Someone will be back in a few hours to bring you food and water and help you to the bathroom. Don’t even think about trying to get out of here.”

Avery said nothing, hoping her death glare said it all.

Sonny unlocked the cuffs. She tried to step around him, but he was faster, heading for the door and closing it behind him, locking it. And of course she didn’t have her goddamn keys.
