“We’re here to see Wyatt Smith. I’m his sister, Avery.”

“Sign in here please,” The receptionist passed over a tablet and stared at them. “You three as well.”

“Which room?”

“He’s in the ICU. He should be moved to room 519 in a few hours. ICU is at the end of the hallway. One visitor in the room at a time.”

“Thank you,” Avery replied as she passed the tablet to Sonny to sign. He scrawled an illegible signature and passed it on.

Heading down the long hallway, Sonny spotted Gage and Jesse, standing in the hallway, leaning up against the wall with their heads back. Shit, was Sonny’s instinct wrong?

For a man who prided himself on being unaffected, he was rattled as hell.

Gage turned his head, but Sonny couldn’t read his expression until they reached the door. His president’s eyes were bloodshot.

Jesse spoke up first. “Wyatt should be back in a private room in a few hours if his vitals are stable.”

“How bad is it?” Sonny asked.

“He was shot twice, once in the shoulder which was a through and through, but the second shot hit him in the right pec, his lung collapsed, and he was hemorrhaging pretty bad. Had a couple of transfusions. But they’re hopeful that he’ll make it. It’ll be a long recovery though,” Gage said.

“Did anyone see who did it? What about the security feed?” Sonny asked.

“The security feed went out shortly before Wyatt was shot.”

Gage unexpectedly pulled Avery into his arms, clutching her tightly. She patted her dad’s back and then he let go.

“What do you need us to do?” Dante asked quietly.

“I need someone to take shifts with me. I don’t want to chance leaving Wyatt alone,” Gage whispered.

“You think DR would try to get to him in here?” Avery asked.

Gage sighed. “I wouldn’t put anything past Galen at this point.”

“I volunteer to take the first shift,” Dante murmured. “Me and Jesse can manage.”

Jesse nodded in response.

Sonny cocked his head and looked at Gage. “We confirmed that Galen and Tyra are lovers, and he set her up to meet Hazel for an invite to our party, to infiltrate the compound. But Tyra hasn’t told us how or who led her to locate our guns.”

Gage nodded and tugged on his beard. “Keep working on it, but let her sit for a few hours.”

“I’ll text Vanier and tell him to stay put.” Avery murmured.

Gage nodded. “I’ll stay with Jesse and Dante until Wyatt wakes up. Meantime, I’m going to reach out my contacts and see what I can learn about Death Riders’ recent business. Xander, dig into Galen’s legal and not so legal stuff online and get me every bit of info you can. And anyone that might be connected to us and to him. And track whoever came to our parties over the past month. I want everyone’s movements.”

“You got it,” Xander replied.

“What about me?” Avery asked.

“Go back with Sonny and help him with Tyra.”

Gage turned to Sonny. “Stick close to Avery. You understand?”

Sonny nodded. That meant he could lock her up again if needed. At least that was some good news. Sonny turned to Avery and her defiant glare told him he was in for another fight. Instead of feeling annoyed, it made his blood spark to life. It was more than welcome.

He’d rather feel her than nothing at all.
