“Damn right it is.”

Gage nodded and pulled out his phone. He tapped on it and showed the screen to Sonny.

“Thanks, Gage.”

“Don’t thank me yet. She’s not a Hellion for nothing. If she’s as mad as I think, you’re in for a rough time. Serves you right, but still.”

“I’m the devil’s bastard. I can handle her fire.”

“Don’t say I didn’t warn you,” Gage chuckled as he walked away.

Sonny grabbed a few bottles of water from the fridge and Rochelle handed him a paper bag. “Now that you got your head outta your dumb ass, here’s a sandwich for the road.”

“Thanks, Rochelle.”

“I’m sorry I snapped at you, but Avery is like the sister I never had,” Rochelle replied as Nate stepped up beside her.

“You do right by her,” Nate warned.

Sonny nodded. “I will.”

Ten minutes later, he was out on the road, headed west.

He thought about texting her, but she probably had her notifications turned off. Besides, what needed to be said had to be done face to face, not phone to phone.

After over two hours on the road, and one pit stop, he pulled into Banff and to the address Gage had given him. It was half past midnight.

Sonny glanced at the log cabin, settled in amongst a thick forest of pine trees. It was quiet, private, perfect really. The only illumination came from the lights along the driveway, and the windows of the cabin.

Sonny spotted Avery’s bike and parked in next to her.

He pulled out his phone and scrolled through missed messages, but there was nothing urgent. As he was about to dismount, he felt something hard press against his lower back.

“What the hell are you doing here?” Avery’s voice echoed in the dark.

His Hellion was angry and ready to fight. Sonny fought back a smile.

“I’m here for you,” Sonny replied, not moving but wanting desperately to turn around.

“Really? Didn’t sound that way from your texts,” Avery quipped and pushed what he assumed was her handgun, into his back again. “Why don’t you turn around and drive back home. You don’t want to be here.”

“I’m here to talk. There’s things that need to be said,” Sonny countered. “Can you please remove the gun from my back so we can have a fucking conversation?”

Avery must’ve stepped back because he no longer felt any kind of pressure on his spine. He swung his leg over his bike and turned to face her. Without makeup, and even in the darkness, he could see her nose was red and her eyes were wet. He’d hurt her and the knowledge made his chest ache in the worst way.

“Say what you want to say and then get gone,” Avery spat out, her luminous eyes glowing.

“Let’s go inside. Please.”

Sonny never pleaded with anyone. Ever.

Avery’s chest moved in and out with rapid breaths until she finally nodded. She turned and he followed her up the stairs, noting every detail from her fuzzy slippers to her silky PJs to her messy blonde hair. Not to mention, the Glock in her hand.

She was the sexiest goddamn thing he’d ever seen.

Avery opened the door and he entered behind her, the warmth and glow of the fire catching his attention. The place was sparsely furnished but cozy. Candles were lit on a coffee table and a bottle of wine beside them. Avery set the gun down on the console by the door and walked over to the couch.

Sonny’s pulse began to pound furiously as he finally got a good look at his woman. She looked up and her golden eyes swirled with a pain that he caused. Then he noticed the tear tracks under her eyes and the way she bit her lower lip.
