“Wouldn’t want you to miss the show,” I roll my eyes, but then Prescott’s fingers wrap around my hair, and he pulls it to the side, and any sort of amusement I felt is gone.

What’s left is pure, raw need.

Licking my lips, I hold Prescott’s gaze as I lower down.

I can feel his body react when my warm breath touches his skin. Our lips brush together as I wrap them around the cup. His fingers tighten in my hair, and I can feel the burning in my scalp. Just a split-second touch, barely long enough to be even considered a touch, but strong enough to send a jolt of electricity through my body as I tilt my head back, letting the shot slide down my throat.

People cheer as I finish the shot, but I can barely hear it from the sound of ringing in my own ears.

Prescott sits up, so I pull back, putting some much-needed distance between us. Turning my back on him, I go back to my spot where Grace is watching me with interest.

“You good?”

“Yeah. Just a bit dizzy,” I lie. “I think I’ll go to the bathroom.”

“Want me to go with you?”

I shake my head, getting to my feet. “You stay with Pens. I’ll be back in a bit.”

CHAPTERTWENTY-FOUR

PRESCOTT

“She’s freaking crazy,” Nixon mutters as he joins me.

I don’t have to ask who he’s talking about; his eyes are still locked on the door where Jade disappeared to. “I don’t know what’s gotten into her.”

“Maybe she just wants to have fun.”

My best friend turns his head toward me, eyes narrowing. “Don’t you start with that bullshit, too.”

“It’s not bullshit, Nix. Just because you’re not interested in parties and drinking doesn’t mean other people aren’t. Cut her some slack.”

Silence stretches between us as he just watches me, and I can feel the hairs at the back of my neck rise under his scrutinizing glare.

“I thought you didn’t like Jade.”

Fuck.

“I don’t.”

Did he see something? I tried my best to keep my cool, but it was hard when the girl you want more than your next breath was standing over you, her hands on your body as she leaned in to drink the shot straight out of your mouth, and you just watched her take off her panties in front of a room full of people like it’s just any regular day.

I was so tempted to leap across the room and punch Montana in his stupid face for asking something like that from her, but I knew I couldn’t. Not if I didn’t want people to ask any questions, but maybe I’ve been wrong, and people could see it regardless.

“I just get where she’s coming from,” I continued softly. “You’ve changed. You’ve figured out your life, and you’re happy, and that’s great, man, but not all of us did. Some of us are still looking.”

“I just hope you’re not looking at my little sister.” He shakes his head. “What the hell am I thinking? Everybody’s looking at her when she’s doing shit like she pulled tonight. I should probably go and check in on her, make sure that she’s okay and not puking her guts out.”

“Go home.”

“What?”

“Go home. If you go and look for her, you’ll only get into another fight.”

I can see Nixon’s mind work as he processes my words. I’m right. He knows I’m right. I’m not sure what’s happening between the two, but they’ve been fighting more lately. And it wasn’t even one of those silly sibling fights, either.

Finally, Nixon lets out a sigh, “You’ll make sure that she gets home okay?”
