I shake my head. “Everything else is fine.”

Better than fine.

“Okay,” he whispers, his mouth brushing against mine. “Now, show me how you work your magic.”

I let out a soft chuckle, “You seriously want to watch me edit photos?”

“Yeah. It seems fun.”

“Okay, it’s your funeral.”

I get back to my computer, editing a couple more photos before I look down, only to find Prescott passed out.

“So much for that.”

I brush my fingers over his scruffy cheek as I watch him sleep. I’ve never seen him so… soft. So vulnerable.

“I can’t very well throw you out now, can I?” Shaking my head, I close my laptop and put it on the nightstand. I lean over him and turn off the light before lying down next to him. “You better not have that godawful alarm turned on because I’ll end you, Prescott Wentworth.”

With that, I close my eyes and let sleep claim me too.

CHAPTERTWENTY-EIGHT

PRESCOTT

A loudclankfollowed by a stream of curses snaps me out of my dreams. Groaning, I tighten my arms around the soft body next to mine, cursing Spencer for waking me up as I burrow my head into the crook of her neck, inhaling the sweet scent of lavender and—

My eyes snap open instantly as the smell registers in my mind.

Jade.

The memories of last night come streaming back.

Returning from the away game.

Going home.

Seeing the light in her room on as I was entering my building

Changing the direction and going there instead.

Her.

With all that messy hair and wearing only my hoodie.

My stomach twists like it did when I saw her.

And now I went and fell asleep in her bed, out of all things?

Fuck.

I’m surprised she let me sleep here. I’d have figured she’d have woken me up and kicked me out. But something changed last night.

I’m not going to do something that you don’t want me to, Jade.

I’m not sure what or how exactly, but it did, and I don’t know what to think about it.

Giving her one last look, I slowly disentangle my arms from her body, making sure not to wake her up as I get to my feet. My knee groans in protest, but I don’t let it stop me as I get up and grab my shirt, slipping it over my head and grabbing my duffle.
