Glancing toward the door where I can still hear footsteps in the hallway, I turn toward the window and get the hell out.

* * *

“What’s wrong with him?”

“He’s been in a mood.Again. Some days, I swear I live with a fucking hormonal girl.”

I lift my gaze from my plate and glare at Spencer, who’s sitting across from me with Zane and Xander. The three of them are looking at me like I’m some sort of a weird experiment or something.

Zane’s brows pull together. “Is it his leg?”

“More like a middle leg,” Spencer smirks. “I think our boy has some girl trouble.”

“You know I can hear you just fine, right?” I mutter, grabbing my beer and taking a long pull. “My leg’s fine, and I’m not having any kind of trouble, especially notgirltrouble.”

No, my trouble is all woman.

A five-foot-six-inches of infuriating stubbornness and smart mouth kind of trouble.

I kind of expected Jade to text me when she woke up, but there was nothing. No text messages. No calls. Zero. Null. Nada.

I should be happy about it. After all, she was just sticking to what we decided in the first place. This was just a hookup, nothing more, nothing less. But for whatever reason, it’s been bothering me for the last few days ever since I left her and have heard nothing from her.

You don’t want to hear from her.

Except for sex.

Which this is all about.

“See? He’s back at it. Like a fre—”

I ball the napkin and throw it at Spencer’s head. “Still can hear you.” I shake my head, pushing the thoughts of Jade out of it. “Seriously, did it ever cross your mind that you’re getting on my nerves, and that’s the reason why I ignore you?”

Spencer blinks. “No.”

“Didn’t think so.”

“Well, I’m really an interesting person to be around.”

The ginger man snorts, “Yeah, only in your head.”

“Now, you, I took you under my wing, you should be—”

“Technically,Zanetook me under his wing. He just invites you for a ride. And it was a smart move since I’m killing it here.”

I wasn’t sure what exactly his story was, but last year Xander transferred to Blairwood after some shit hit the fan back in Michigan. He didn’t talk about it much, and I wasn’t one to probe.

Spencer waves him off. “Semantics.”

“Pretty big semantics if you ask me. It kind of goes along with your big head.”

“Hey, now!” Spencer protests as we all burst into laughter. “The only head that’s big is the one in my pants, and I haven’t heard anybody protest about it so far.”

“That’s because your ego is too big to hear it,” Zane says, taking a pull from his beer.

I burst into laughter just as Spencer gets into it. Shaking my head, I look for the waiter to order another round, and that’s when I see her.

Jade.
