“Okay,” Grace says slowly, clearly not believing me.

“When did he give it to you?”

“At the beginning of this semester. His roommates agreed although I avoid using it. Feels like I’m invading their privacy in a way. But he still insists I have it since he doesn’t want me to wait outside for him when he gets back late from work or from away games, so I humor him.”

I clench my fingers, metal digging into my skin. “I guess that makes sense.”

Still didn’t explain why Prescott gave me the key to his place. Did he give it to all his hookups so they could get themselves out once he was done with them?

Why the hell am I even thinking about it?

“Hey.” Grace’s hand covers mine, snapping me out of my thoughts. “You sure you’re okay?”

“Great. I think I’ll go to my room. Get some work done.”

“Okay. You planning on going to the game tonight?”

“Of course. Wanna come too?”

“I wish,” Grace lets out a sigh. “Mason has a game too.”

Getting to my feet, I grab my coffee cup. “Somebody is turning into a hoop bunny.”

Grace groans loudly, “Don’t say that. It’s awful.”

“Hey, you picked your guy, don’t go crying about it now,” I yell as I make my way to my room, still chuckling. Just as I close the door behind me, my phone buzzes in my pocket.

Hotshot: You left.

I bite the inside of my cheek, cursing at my heart for doing a little flip inside my chest.

Me: I told you I have work to do.

Hotshot: And here I was thinking of all the creative ways I could wake you up.

Me: Like what?

Hotshot: As if I’ll tell you now.

Hotshot: You’ll have to wait and find out.

Wait and find out implied that there would be another night that we’d sleep in the same bed. Wake up in the same bed.

And why doesn’t that sound half bad?

Hotshot: I’ll see you after the game?

Me: Yeah, I’ll be there.

Hotshot: I’d tell you to wear that hoodie you stole but…

But that would never be possible.

Not only is it a completely girlfriend thing to do, and we’re definitely not boyfriend and girlfriend, but somebody could see, and word that Jade Cole is hooking up with her brother’s best friend and teammate would spread like a wildfire.

And that can’t happen.

Ever.
