CHAPTERTHIRTY-SIX

JADE

Stifling a yawn, I step into the elevator, only to be greeted by my tired reflection. Not even the makeup could help hide the dark circles under my eyes.

I had to set the alarm at three in the morning because I didn’t want to risk my brother sneaking in at the crack of dawn and finding me sleeping in Prescott’s bed. Talk about awkward. And just as I was falling asleep in my own hotel room, I got the message from Yas that they were going down for breakfast, and I should join them.

The temptation to turn around and go back to bed is strong, but instead, I press the button to close the door.

Maybe I’ll get some sleep before the game. That sounds nice. I’ll grab something to eat and hop right in—

“Hold the elevator!”

I look up, my hand slipping between the closing door just as Prescott and Sullivan appear in the hallway.

“Jade?” Sullivan’s eyes narrow at me. “What are you doing here?”

My gaze meets Prescott’s, and I feel my tummy tighten. He looks gorgeous, all sleepy and disheveled like this. My eyes fall to his mouth, remembering the feel of it on my skin as he worshiped my body last night. As if he could read my mind, his eyes darkened, making me wish we were alone. Preferably back in the room. Naked.

Screw sleep. It’s definitely overrated.

Forcing a smile out, I shift my attention to Sullivan. “Being the best sister Nixon could ever ask for.”

They join me in the elevator making the small space seem even tighter with their hulking height.

“Wait, you came here last night with Yasmin?”

“Yeah, she came to me all sad that they had to spend Nixon’s birthday apart because of football. I couldn’t watch her mope for days, now could I?”

A hand brushes against mine, making me suck in a breath.

What the hell is he doing?

My heart speeds up, and I bite the inside of my cheek, keeping my gaze straight ahead, hoping Sullivan hasn’t noticed it.

“Why didn’t you come to the bar with her last night?”

Because I was preparing a surprise of my own?

“I was…” Fingers brush against mine once again. This time the movement is more intent. The hairs at the back of my neck rise as a pinky links with mine. “T-tired.”Damn. Get a grip, Jade.I tuck a strand of my hair behind my ear. “From the ride.”

Prescott lets out a soft snort next to me, his other hand rising so he can rub his nose and cover his laughter.

Asshole.

I’m going to kill him for this.

“I guess there’s that,” Sullivan agrees. If he notices something is strange, he doesn’t let it show.

Thank God for small mercies.

“You ready for the game?” I ask, needing to change the subject.

Sullivan grunts, “It’s not like I’m going to play, so I guess it doesn’t matter.”

The elevator chimes, and Prescott lets go of my finger. Sullivan’s eyes meet mine. “I guess I’ll see you later?”

“Sure.”
