“I’ll walk you.”

He’ll walk me? How about hell to the no?

“No, thanks.” I tug my hand out of his grasp. “The walk of shame will be bad enough on my own. I guess at least one good thing came out of your stupid-ass alarm.”

Done with this conversation, I grab my bag from his desk and go toward the door. This time he doesn’t try to stop me.

His apartment is quiet when I make my way out of the door, taking two steps at a time until I’m out in the open. The morning is chilly, so I tuck the sleeves of the hoodie over my hands as I look around.

The buildings surrounding me are similar to the one I’m living in, making me realize we are living in the same neighborhood. I look around, my eyes narrowing slightly at the number hanging on the wall of the building as my heart starts to speed up.

Not just the same neighborhood.

The building next door.

Why does the idea of it make my stomach tighten? And not in revulsion either.

This is getting ridiculous.

Rubbing at my forehead, I shake my head and march to my own building.

I’m quiet as I make my way to the first floor and slide my key in the door, but before I can turn it, I can hear the softclinkfrom the other side as the door opens, and I come face to face with Rei.

My friend stops in her tracks, her eyes taking me in. “Long night?”

“You could say that,” I respond, running my hand over my face.

“Did you have a good time?”

You sure as hell weren’t coy downstairs when you were rubbing all over our dicks.

A shudder runs through me as the ugly words ring in my head, and I remember the weight of his body pressing me into the mattress. His fingers wrapped around my wrists while the other guy went for my chest.

I rub the side of my breast, feeling a little sting even through the thick cotton.

“It was okay.” My gaze drops to her duffle. The bag is almost as big as her. “You going to the rink?”

Rei smiles. “Zane’s picking me up. How about we grab lunch later, and you can tell us all about it?”

No way in hell am I bringing up last night if I can help myself.

“Yeah, maybe. I have to check my schedule. Text you later?”

“Sounds good.” She pulls her phone out of her side pocket. “That’s Zane. I better get going.”

Talk about close.

“Have a good skate,” I say as I slip into the silent apartment.

I walk down the hallway and go straight to my room, not stopping until I’m in the bathroom. Flipping the switch on, I’m faced with my reflection in the mirror.

God, I look like a mess. My hair is one big bird’s nest, my eyes bloodshot, and there are dark smudges under my eyes from the makeup. I don’t bother with wiping it off before taking off my clothes. I leave the hoodie for last, my fingers holding onto it for a heartbeat longer than necessary before letting it drop to the floor and facing my reflection.

The knot is still visible in my armpit, as are the bruises, but now they’re accompanied by the dark, fingertip-shaped bruises on my breast. Most likely, from where the guy grabbed it, his mark imprinted into my skin.

With a shake of my head, I turn my back on the reflection and turn the water on to the highest temperature possible. I wait until it’s warm enough before climbing into the tub and standing under the spray.

I let the water wash last night off me. If only it would be as easy to wash away the memories.
