I might not be into sports, but there is no way I’ll miss a football game as long as my brother is playing. This is his senior year, after all.

Prescott’s broody face flashes in my mind.

Seriously, Jade? You don’t even like the guy.

Shaking my head, I grab my fresh drink and hand Yasmin the money. “See you, girls, later.”

Contrary to the required general ed classes I have to take, my photography and graphic design classes pass in a blink of an eye, and by the time the professor concludes the lesson, I’m still eagerly sitting at the edge of my seat, wanting more.

Writing down a note to read the assigned chapters, I close my books and shove them into my bag. I pull my phone out as I head out of the auditorium, checking my messages.

Grace: Drinks and dinner at Moore’s? I went by the cafeteria, and the food was crappy.

Penny: I have the studio booked for two hours. Rain check?

Rei: I’m still at the rink, but I can join you once I’m done.

Grace: Sounds good.

“Dude, it’s not the end of the world,” somebody says loud enough to draw my attention.

I look around to find one of my classmates, Joshua Sullivan, talking to another guy who looks vaguely familiar, although I’m not sure where to place him.

“Of course, you’d say that. It’s not like you were benched.”

“That’s not what I meant,” the guy groans. “You should probably wait until your coach gives the final list of starters.”

“That was the final list of starters for this season.” Sullivan kicks a rock with his foot, the little pebble flying in my direction. He looks up, his gaze meeting mine.

Damn, I’m so caught.Biting the inside of my cheek, I lift my hand and wave—it’s not like he didn’t see me anyhow—before turning around and continuing on my way. My phone vibrates, reminding me I haven’t answered my friends.

Grace: Jade?

Me: Just got out of class, can meet you there in ten.

Grace: I’ll hurry up. I might have stopped to watch Mason play ball with his friends.

I roll my eyes at her message. Of course she somehow ended up watching her boyfriend play basketball between the cafeteria and Moore’s. It’s been their thing since they were teens. She used to sneak into the gym at the community center they both attended and watched him play, but she never did anything until he finally asked her out. I guess some things never change.

“Hey, Jade, wait!”

I look up at the sound of my name to see Joshua Sullivan jogging after me. I slow down, letting him catch up to me.

“Sorry, it wasn’t my intention to eavesdrop,” I say lamely.

Sullivan and I are both minoring in graphic design and have had a few classes together in the past, including Digital Illustration. I’ve seen his work, and the guy is really talented both on the computer, but also with pen and paper.

“It’s fine. We weren’t really quiet about it.” Sullivan shakes his head as if he wants to push those thoughts away and change the subject. “What are you up to?”

He runs his fingers through his light brown strands, mussing his perfectly styled hair, those blue eyes fixing on me. He’s handsome. I’ll give him that. Tall, with wide shoulders and just the right amount of muscles for a football player.

“Meeting some friends at Moore’s. You?”

“I’m going there myself. Cole called for a football meeting.”

I raise my brow as I start walking, Sullivan following after me. “Did he now?”
