“Jealous, Cole?”

She snorts, “Of what?”

“I don’t know.” I wrap my fingers around her wrist, stopping her from poking me any further. “You tell me.”

Jade tilts her head back, those blue eyes of hers burning brightly.

“In your dreams,” she lets out a soft chuckle. “It seems to me like you’re the jealous one here, Wentworth.”

I suck in a sharp breath, noticing for the first time how close we’re standing to one another. That sweet scent of hers fills my lungs, and I can feel her warm breath tickle my skin, making the hair on my nape stand at attention. Our joined hands are the only barrier separating my body from hers.

So close.

Too damn close.

Before I can react, she pulls her hand out of my grasp and glares at me. That’s when I see it. The glassy haze of her irises.

“Jade…”

“You’re not the boss of me, so go and boss somebody else.”

With that, she slips around me and goes for the door. I let out a shaky breath, running my fingers through my hair and tugging at the strands. My heart was galloping in my chest, and I could swear I still felt that lavender scent around me.

“Fuck you, Nixon.”

It’s all his damn fault. If he didn’t say shit, I wouldn’t have gone after her.

Liar, liar.

Taking a few minutes to compose myself, I make my way back to the table.

“What took you so long?” Phillip asks as I slide into my seat.

“Keeping tabs on me?” I grab the beer sitting in front of me and take a long pull wishing it was something stronger.

It seems to me like you’re the jealous one here, Wentworth.

She’s crazy. That’s what she is. Jealous of what exactly? Her flirting with some boys? As if. Besides, she’s Nixon’s little sister, for fuck’s sake.

The little sister you can’t stop thinking about.

“Just making observations,” Phillip chimes. “No need to get all broody about it.”

“I’m not broody,” I mutter, my gaze darting toward Jade’s table once again. My teeth grit together. Her hand is around the guy’s shoulder as she talks to him. The guy says something, and she leans closer, her tongue darting out and sliding over her wet lips.

Not flirting my ass.

The little wench is doing it on purpose.

I drink the rest of my beer and signal the waitress who’s just passing by. “Double scotch on the rocks.”

“What happened to not getting drunk?” Sullivan asks.

“Hey, I’m not your captain.”

“No, you’re just an asshole who thinks he’s better than the rest of us,” he bites out and pushes his chair back as he jumps to his feet.

Thankfully, just then, the waitress comes back with my drink. I take it from her hand, downing it in one go, my attention going to Jade’s table just in time to catch them grabbing their things and leaving. That dude is still plastered around her.
