Page 59 of Kiss to Shatter

“I can walk just fine.” I glare at Nixon before turning my attention to Prescott. “I don’t need you two to micromanage me.”

“Are you going back to your place?”

“Well, yeah b—”

“Me too, so why would you walk back?”

I open my mouth to protest but close it swiftly. I hate it when he’s being so… rational.

“See? Problem solved.” Nixon presses his mouth against the top of my head. “I’ll see you later, Smalls.”

“Later,” I say and hug Yas goodbye before the two of them go to their car.

Letting out a sigh, I follow after Prescott, mentally preparing myself for the drive back. I expect him to mention the kiss again, but he doesn’t, so I play with the radio until I find the station I like before settling back in my seat and clasping my hands in my lap.

Maybe he won’t say anything.

Maybe he already forgot about it.

Maybe—

“We should seriously talk about what happened last night,” Prescott says finally as he pulls into a parking space in front of our building complex, breaking the silence.

Or maybe not.

“Oh, you mean like the fact that you gave me a freaking hickey?” I look at him, my brows raised. “Or the fact that my brother wants to kill you without knowing he wants to kill you? Is that what you’d like to talk about?”

Prescott runs his hand over his face. “What happened last night was a mistake, okay? I’m sorry. It was totally out of place. It should have never happened. Itwillnever happen again. You’re my best friend’s little sister, for fuck’s sake!”

His words are like a blow.

Mistake.

That’s what I’m to him—a freaking mistake.

I let out a humorless chuckle.

“Well, you didn’t think I was little when you saw me flirting with other guys and got jealous, and you definitely didn’t think I was little when you had me pressed against that tree and buried your fingers inside me.” I shake my head and fiddle with the seatbelt until it finally unclasps.

Out.

I need to get out.

“Jade…” Prescott tries to grab my hand, but I’m already pushing the door and sliding out of the car. “Don’t—”

“No, you said what you meant.” I press my palms against the roof of the car as I lean down to face him. “There are guys who want me, Wentworth. You don’t get to act like a jealous asshole when it suits you.”

Then I close the door in his face and march into my building.

CHAPTERTHIRTEEN

PRESCOTT

“Read chapters thirteen through eighteen. We’ll be working on those during our next lab,” the professor says as she wraps up the class. “I’ll see you on Thursday.”

I quickly jot down the note before closing my books and shoving them into my bag. I push to my feet. My leg protests the movement, my muscles stiff from sitting down for so long, or maybe it’s the beating I took yesterday. I’m not sure if the first game was a fluke or if our recent opponents were stronger, but the team was struggling. The second game was a blood bath, and I could feel it in every bone of my body.

My phone beeps as I exit the building. I pull it out, my whole body tensing when I read the name on my screen. For a moment, I’m tempted to let it go to voicemail, but I know it won’t help one bit, quite the contrary.
