Of course, it had to beher.

Because that’s just my luck.

Jade Cole.

My best friend’s little sister and the bane of my existence.

I have barely seen her since we returned from Hawaii, where we spent spring break with our friends. A spring break where on the last day, when everybody else was asleep, she snuck out to the beach to skinny dip and challenged me to join her. A challenge I couldn’t ignore, although I knew better.

But now she’s here, and the image of her naked body illuminated by the moonlight and that silky skin of hers brushing against mine underwater pops back in my mind, more vivid than ever. My whole body stiffens at the memory, my cock growing painfully hard.

For the ever-loving God. She’s your best friend’s little sister! Get a grip, Wentworth.

Why couldn’t we continue with the pattern from last spring? Where I barely would catch glimpses of her in passing. The less I saw her, the less tempted I’d be to do anything about these… feelings she evoked in me. A weird mix between wanting to strangle her and wanting to kiss the hell out of her. Neither of which I can do anything about.

I almost—almost—got her out of my head, but now she’s back, and, of course, my life couldn’t be that easy.

I watch as a strand of that lush dark hair slips from the confines of her ponytail and falls into her face. She puffs it away; her cheeks pink from the work as she hauls a big-ass armchair out of the trunk of the truck.

“Give me that.” Crossing the distance, I grab the armchair out of her grasp. Not so much because I want to help but because I need something to help hide the boner in my workout shorts.

“What the…” Jade turns around, those stormy, blue-gray eyes sending daggers my way. “What areyoudoing here?”

“Trying to help?”

Jade puts her hands on the chair and tugs it toward her. “Well, I don’t remember asking for your help.”

“Seriously?”

“Yes, seriously.” Her eyes narrow. “Now, let go of my chair.”

“I’m not letting go.” I tug the chair toward me. “The damn thing is probably twice as heavy as you. Now, will you let it go before you fall on your ass?”

“I’m not letting it go,” she grits, the color rising in her cheeks. “Besides, I don’t see how that’s your problem.”

“It apparently is my problem since Nixon told me to come here.”

If possible, those stormy eyes turn even darker.

“Of course he did,” she mutters. “Well, your services aren’t necessary, so off you go.”

Off you go? Is she serious right now?Once again, I tug the damn chair toward me. “You shouldn’t chase off people who are trying to help you.”

She pulls the chair toward her. “I didn’taskfor your help.”

I tug it back harder. “Why do you always have to be so difficult, doll?”

“Don’t call me that!”

Jade stomps her foot and pulls once again. Only this time, the armchair actually slips from my grasp. Her eyes turn wide as she loses her balance and starts falling back. I try to grab it before it falls on her, but I lose my footing in the process.

Fucking hell.

Shoving the chair out of the way, I slip my hand around her waist and pull her to me. There’s just enough time for me to shift our positions as we both fall to the ground.

The air is kicked out of my lungs, and I swear every bone in my body feels rearranged from the force of the impact. I close my eyes and breathe in a shaky breath as I try to compose myself and just… breathe.

This is sonotwhat I needed.
