“Yeah, yeah. Say hi to Yas for me,” I call after him before turning my attention to Prescott. “Now…”

“Is this really necessary? I’ve got places to be.”

He’s got places to be?

“What do you think? That I was waiting in line for an opportunity to shoot your smug ass? If you want to blame somebody, blame yourself for agreeing to do the article. I just got stuck with it since Vicky had to leave.”

“I didn’t agree to anything. Coach wanted me to do it. He talked about a good image for the team and shit.” He runs his hand over his face. “Whatever, let’s just get this done.”

“Fine.”

I spot a football somebody left on the sidelines and go to grab it. When I turn around, I find Prescott watching me, brows raised.

“You’ll throw it? I thought you were here to take photos.”

Smirking, I curl my fingers around the leather. It’s been a while since I played catch with Nixon. When we were kids, he’d bully me into playing, and he would go on forhoursuntil I wanted to strangle him.

“I’m here to take photos.”

I pull my hand back and throw him a perfect spiral. His eyes widen in surprise, but he manages to catch the ball before it falls on the ground.

“Hidden talents, Cole?”

“I figured you better than anyone knows who my brother is.”

Although said gently, the words sober him up. His jaw clenches as he stares at me, fingers curling around the ball. “Are we doing this or not?”

What are we really doing?

The words are on the tip of my tongue, but I push them back.

I give my head a shake. “Sure thing.”

I coach him through different positions and snap the photos. His muscles flex as he grips the ball, that intense glare of his directed right at me the whole time. My tummy clenches almost involuntarily as I press my shaky finger against the shutter. I’m grateful for the barrier between us, even if it’s just a lens.

I pull the camera away and check the photos, making sure there is enough for Vicky to choose.

“I think we’re done,” I say, shutting off my camera and letting it fall against my stomach. “I’ll send the photos to Vicky when I get back home.”

“Okay,” he rubs the back of his neck. “I guess that’s it.”

“That’s it.” My eyes fall down to his lips. Soft and so tempting. I swear I can feel them pressed against mine. I bite the inside of my cheek.Get a grip, girl.“I’ll see you later.”

Before he can say anything, I turn on the balls of my feet and walk away.

What was that?

Heat spreads through my cheeks. I hurry my steps, my eyes glued to the ground so I don’t trip over my own feet.

It’s crazy.

He shouldn’t unnerve me like that.

We kissed once.

Okay, we did a little bit more than that.

And then he called it all a mistake.
