Home.

She smells like home.

A lump forms in my throat, but I push it back, my voice coming out tight and raspy. “Don’t forget that.”

She sucks in a breath, those pretty eyes widening slightly.

Sliding my hands around her waist, I pull her flush against me, lifting her feet off the ground.

“What are you doing?” Jade asks, her fingers gripping my shoulders. “Put me down!”

“I asked you nicely…”

“What you did was boss me around,” she protests. “Put me down, Prescott. Now.”

“But you wanted to do it the hard way,” I mutter, ignoring her interruption as I walk her to my car. I pull open the passenger side door and put her down. Her body brushes against mine as she gets to her feet, leaving tingles in its wake. “Now, do I need to put you inside, or do you want to do it on your own?”

Jade tilts her head back, glaring right at me. “I don’t remember it that way.”

“Of course you don’t.” She rolls her eyes and tries to walk around me, but I place my hands on the roof of my car, caging her in. “Get that stubborn ass inside my car, Jade. I won’t repeat it again.”

“You’re acting like a neanderthal, Wentworth. It doesn’t look good on you.”

“Well, you’re acting like a spoiled brat, so I guess we’re even.” I tilt my head to the side and pointedly look at her. I’m not below putting her ass into the car myself.

After what seems like forever, she finally grits: “Fine.”

Lifting her chin a notch in defiance, she turns around and slides into the car.

I shift in my place. “Was that so hard?”

She slowly turns toward me. “Do you really want me to kick your ass?”

A chuckle breaks out of my lungs. “Only in your dreams, doll.”

“Don’t ca—”

I close the door before she can finish. Suddenly in a way better mood, I make my way around the car and slide into the driver’s seat.

“That was rude.”

“So is threatening people, doll.” I start the car, checking my rearview mirror before taking off. “Where is your car anyway?”

She shouldn’t be walking home alone at night. This is a relatively peaceful campus, but you can never be too sure.

The image of Jade being dragged upstairs at that party flashes in my mind.

My fingers tighten around the steering wheel.Definitely never too sure.

“Back home.”

I turn toward her, my eyes narrowing. “Home home?”

“Do you know any other home?”

“Why the fuck for?” How is she going from her apartment to campus every day?Every night?

“Because I didn’t need it? Both Nixon and Yasmin drove, and Grace has a car,” she shrugs. “It seemed pointless since I can get one of theirs if I really need it.”
