“And I sure as hell shouldn’t even be thinking about you twice. Your brother would kill me if he ever found out what I did. What I want to do to you.”

“But you won’t.”

“No, I won’t.”

Stubborn, irritating asshole. Pulling the keys out of my bag, I shove them into the lock and turn it. I’m going to send these photos to Vicky, and then I’m going out. I’ll find a bar, get a few drinks, hell, get drunk, and—

“Jade? Is that you?”

“It’s me,” I call out just as Grace peeks her head out of her room.

“Hey, I’m just—” She stops in her tracks and gives me a once-over. “Is everything okay?”

No, everything is not okay, but I can’t tell her that because it’ll lead to more questions. Questions I don’t have answers for. At least not any that’ll make sense because there’s no sense whatsoever in all these feelings that he stirs inside me.

“Perfect. What were you saying?”

“I’m going over to Mason’s. You wanna come?”

“And be a third wheel to the two of you? I think I’ll ski—”

“His roommates are also home. They’re playing some video games.”

I narrow my eyes at her. “And who exactly is all there?”

“Oh, you know, the usual crowd. Matteo, Quinn, Nate,” She rubs the back of her neck and looks away. “Michael…”

“Mhmm… Why am I not surprised?” I give her my I-know-what-you’re-trying-to-do look.

“What? We’re just hanging out. That’s all. And I figured since Rei’s not home tonight, you’d like to join us, but if you’d rather stay here…”

She turns around and goes back to her room.

“Is there booze?”

Grace looks over her shoulder with her brows pulled together. “I guess so?”

“And you’re not going to try and hook me up with any of your boyfriend’s teammates?”

“As if you’d let me.” she rolls her eyes. “So? You coming or what?”

“Fine. But I have to send some photos to one of my classmates first.”

I press my fingers against the controller, each one landing a kick at my opponent on the screen.

“C’mon, c’mon, c’mon!” Grace chants by my side, jumping in her seat. “You can do this. Kick his butt.”

“I’m trying,” I say, my eyes on the screen as I press my fingers against the winning combination that has my character reaching out for her sword and jabbing it into my opponent, making him fall on the ground.

Grace jumps up, her arms in the air. “And that’s how you do it, boys!”

She lifts her hand for me to high-five, and I comply. The guys had been playing some kind of war game when we got here, but Grace convinced them we should switch to Tekken. It’s been us against the boys, and so far, we’ve been kicking their asses.

“This isn’t fair,” Matteo groans from his place. “Did you hijack it in some way or something? You can’t be winning this much.”

Grace pokes her tongue at him. “Don’t be a sore loser.”
