“Punishment for marking me and then kicking me out of your place.”

“You’re joking.”

“Do I look like I’m joking, doll?”

She presses her palms against my chest and tries to push me away, but I don’t budge. “I hate you!”

“The feeling is mutual. But maybe if you’re good, you can convince me to stop by later and give you what you need.”

“You think I’ll be waiting around for you?” Jade huffs. “Think again.”

“Jade...”

“I don’t need you to take care of my needs, Wentworth. I’m more than capable of doing it on my own.” She jabs her finger into my chest. “Think about that when you’re running drills on the field later.”

Then, with a flip of her hair over her shoulder, she ducks under my arm, her hips swaying as she walks away.

I lean against the bookshelf and run my fingers through my hair before letting my hand drop by my side. My dick aches painfully, cursing me for letting this opportunity slide.

So much for keeping things cool.

Letting out a sigh, I rearrange myself, relieving some of the pressure before pushing from the shelf.

It’s time to get back and act like nothing happened.

Getting to the main space, I lift my head, my eyes going instantly to the table where Jade was sitting earlier, only she’s nowhere to be found.

CHAPTERTWENTY-THREE

JADE

There’s a soft knock on my doorway before Grace peeks her head inside my room. “You busy?”

I click save on the essay I’ve been working on before lifting my head to look at her. “Just about finished. What’s up?”

“Wanna go to a party?”

My brows quirk up as I put my laptop on the bed, giving my full attention to Grace. “Who are you, and what did you do with my best friend?”

“Oh, shut up.” Pushing the door open all the way, she hops on the bed next to me. “It’s Spencer.”

“Spencer?”

“Yes,” she rolls her eyes. “He’s been going on and on about this party at his place and told me we should come. It’s not even a party. Just a small get-together.”

I let out a snort. “You know who Spencer is, right? There’s no such thing as “small” and “get together” when it comes to those boys.”

“I know,” she lets out a groan. “But I already told him no the last five or so times he invited me. I can’t do it again. It’s just going to be for a little while. So he can stop nagging me about it.”

I didn’t think that was possible, but what the hell. Who was I to say no to a party?

“So what? It’s just the two of us?” I ask, leaning over the bed to turn off my laptop.

“Penny agreed to go.”

I look at Grace. “She did?”

That was a first. Penny rarely ever went to unfamiliar or overly loud places. They made her uncomfortable, which I guess made sense, considering sound was her best form of orientation and communication, and when it was overly noisy, she couldn’t use it.
