“I’m playing,” I say, turning my back on Sebastian.

“Good.” There is a resoundingplopas his ball lands in one of my cups. “Time to drink up.”

Before I can try and decipher which one, a warm body presses against my back once again, and the cup is placed in my palm.

“I don’t need your help, Enrique’s…”

“Lover boy’s been a lousy teacher so far,” Sebastian cuts me off. “And I know you can win. So, what will it be, Birdy?”

Damn, I hate when he says things like that.

It was hard to be irritated with him when he made me believe that I could do anything I set my mind to, and he was determined to help me succeed.

“Penelope…” Enrique starts just when I say, “Fine.”

“I guess it’s you and me, Birdy,” Sebastian smirks.

My throat bobs as I swallow, his words still ringing in the air. I wanted them to be true, but I knew he didn’t mean them that way.

Why is he here, then?

Shoving the thought to the back of my head, I down the drink in one go. The liquid burns as it slides down my throat, making my eyes water.

What did Jade put in these?

“You good?” Sebastian asks, his fingers pressing against the small of my back.

Silently, I nod, extending my palm.

Sebastian places the ball in my hand, and I throw it. Not much better, but at least this time, the ball hits the table and not the guy.

“You have to throw a little bit harder,” Sebastian says as he leans in. “And try to throw it in a straight line. You’re standing in the middle of the table, and that’s where the majority of his cups are.”

I try to concentrate on his words, but it’s hard when he’s standing so close to me. The heat of his body is radiating off of him, and he’s so close I can smell the scent of his cologne mixing with sweat and something that’s uniquely Sebastian.

Was he running before coming here? Is that why he didn’t answer my message?

“Yes!” Lawrence yells, making me realize he scored, and I must drink again.

This time when I take the cup from Sebastian, I’m ready for the burn of the drink. I even welcome it.

Focus on the game, Penny,I chastise. It doesn’t matter what Sebastian was doing before or why he didn’t answer.

Placing the cup on the side, I grab the ball, but before I can throw it, Sebastian’s palm cups my elbow. My heart skips a beat as his long fingers slide down my forearm until he intertwines them with mine.

“Steady. Try to go for the top one right there in the middle.”

I suck in a breath, biting the inside of my cheek, as I focus on the weight of the ball in my hand and not Sebastian’s nearness.

As if that’s possible.

“Hey,” Lawrence protests, “I don’t think that’s playing—”

I’m not sure if Sebastian glares at him or if it’s the fact that there is a loudplopas the ball falls into a cup, but Lawrence shuts up.

“I got it?” I ask, a smile spreading over my lips as I turn over my shoulder. “I’m pretty sure I got it.”

“You got it.”
