My fingers curl into a fist by my side, the need to strangle him growing.

“Stupid, infuriating…”

“What’s his problem?” Enrique asks, reminding me I’m not alone.

“No idea.”

The only thing I know is that he’s giving me whiplash with his hot and cold attitude.

“Who’s that guy anyway? I’ve never seen him before this year.”

“I…”Shit.“I think he transferred?” I lie lamely. Although Sebastian was acting like an ass, I didn’t want to reveal his secret. “Anyway, I don’t want to talk about him.”

“Then what do you wanna do? Play another round of beer pong?”

I shake my head. “I think I’ve had enough alcohol for one night.”

Just then, the song changes.

“How about a dance instead?” Enrique suggests.

CHAPTERTWENTY-TWO

SEBASTIAN

Splashing icy water on my face, I lean my palms against the counter as I look up and meet my gaze in the mirror.

Who knows, if you play this right, maybe you can get another item crossed off your list.

The flash of surprise and hurt on Penelope’s face pops into my mind. My lips slam together, the tight lines of my face mocking me from my reflection and making my fingers tighten over the countertop.

It was a dick move, but it needed to be done.

I needed to get away from Birdy before I did something stupid, like pull her to me and finish what we started the other day.

Why did I think coming here was a good idea again?

There was nothing good about it.

What it was was pure torture.

The way her soft fingers felt intertwined with mine. Feeling her back pressed against my chest when I showed her how to play beer pong, the sweet scent of roses surrounded me and made my head spin more than any alcohol could. And her smile.Fuck, that smile. It was more powerful than any drug.

She was an addiction I couldn’t get enough of.

She was like a ray of light shining through the darkness, calling to me, and selfishly, I didn’t want to get my fill of her.

Clenching my hands into fists, I pound them against the counter, pushing back.

Get a grip, Black. She isn’t yours to have.

No, Penelope belongs with a preppy, clean-cut guy. Somebody who’ll buy her flowers and make her smile. Somebody she can bring home to meet her family like that lover boy from our class.

Just seeing him next to her made me want to go and punch him in the face.

Because that screamed not interested.

A loud knock on the door snaps me out of my thoughts. Turning around I march toward the door, and pull it open, glaring at the drunk dude on the other side before I push past him and rejoin the party.
