My palms turn sweaty, and I have to grip my phone tighter so it doesn’t slip through my fingers. My shirt clings to my back as the buzzing in my ears intensifies.

“Bash?”

“Bash?”

Slowly pulling away from the girl and getting up.

Moving toward the bathroom on the other side of the room.

The sound of my heart hammering against my ribcage as I called out my best friend’s name only to be greeted by silence.

Pushing the door open, a sense of foreboding creeps up my spine as the door creaks open.

“Sebastian?” The note of worry in Seraphina’s voice snaps me out of my thoughts. “Talk to me.”

Spotting the first door, I push against it and slip inside the room, leaning my back against the hardwood. I think it’s empty for a moment, but then the music pushes the last of my demons at bay.

The soft notes of a piano are like a kick to my gut. My stomach clenches, eyes falling shut as I just listen and let the melody pull me in, slowing down my racing heart.

The gentle sound is so heart-wrenching that it tugs at something inside of me that I didn’t even know existed any longer. Then she starts to sing, and I’m in fucking heaven. Or maybe it’s hell. I’m not sure. The only thing I know is that I can breathe for the first time in what feels like forever.

Drowning in the darkness,

Can you hear my silent cry?

Drowning in the darkness,

Help me find a way out…

I’m walking on the ledge,

(Walking on the ledge)

Tiptoeing the line,

(Tiptoeing the line)

The clock is ticking,

Time is running out,

To hold on, to let go,

I have to make the call tonight.

Fake smiles, twisted words,

You stabbed me in the back,

Like it won’t hurt,

Spilled beans on the concrete

Brought me to my knees

Your little games,

My constant misery.
