“I’m not fighting with you on this, Sebastian. You’resick. Let me help you to your bed. Did you take any Tylenol?”

I turn us toward his door, calling out to Henry to follow after us.

“Didn’t have any, but…shit.”

I stop in my tracks. “What?”

“My door closed.”

His door closed?

“So?” I push him forward, but he’s not budging. “It’s a door; we can open it.”

He seriously needed to get into bed because I wasn’t sure how much longer I could carry him. He was trying not to lean on me, but I could feel him struggling. He’s burning up. I can feel the warmth of his skin, even through the layer of his shirt.

“No, you can’t.” He tries to push back, but he sways on his feet. I tighten my grip around him, which only makes us both waver. Sebastian leans more weight on me, his chin resting on top of my head as he holds onto me like I’m his lifeline.

I guess at this moment, I’m just that.

“Sebastian, it’s just…”

“It’s an automatic door,” he pants, his breathing heavy. “It locks the moment it shuts, and my key’s inside.”

Locked.

From the inside.

“Well, shit.”

What the hell are we supposed to do now?

“I’m sure I can…”

Once again, Sebastian starts coughing, his whole body shaking with the intensity of it.

My muscles burn from all the extra weight I’ve been carrying, but I refuse to let go.

He needs a bed and medicine, and he needed it yesterday.

“You can help me get your ass into my apartment.”

“Birdy…”

“I don’t want to hear it, Black,” I say sternly, making sure to give him my best no-nonsense tone. “My apartment now.”

“F-fine.”

Together we somehow manage to get him into my apartment. Henry is walking around us, trying to figure out what’s going on.

“I’ll just…” Sebastian starts to turn toward the living room, but I tug him to me. “You need a bed.”

This time he doesn’t protest but just lets me haul him into my room, where I help him sit down as gently as possible.

“I shouldn’t be here,” he protests, as I bend down and help him get his feet on the mattress before pulling the covers over his body.

“Well, tough luck, buddy, since you quite literally have nowhere else to go.”

“I could go to the hotel…”
