“I’m appalled that you’d think that was an invitation on a date. When I ask you out on a date, Birdy, youwillknow.”

“So what are we doing?”

“We’re finishing that list of yours.” He presses his lips against mine in a quick kiss, leaving me lightheaded. “I’ll pick you up at seven.”

Letting out a soft sigh, I tighten my clasp around Henry’s harness, and then his words finally register.

Wait, what?!

I don’t get to process it because Enrique asks: “You’re dating that tool?”

Well, shit.

Having Sebastian so near was messing with my head, making me completely forget that we weren’t alone.

“He’s not a tool, and we’re just…” my voice trails off as I try to find the right words to describe what Sebastian and I are to each other. “Hanging out?”

“Yeah, right,” Enrique mutters dryly. “Because you kiss people you ‘hang out with’ just like he kissed you. He was staking his claim on you.”

“He wasn’t staking any claims,” I protest.

“Mhmm…”

“You’re crazy.” I shake my head and change the subject, “You still want to get that coffee or not?”

The moment we step inside, my fingers tighten around Sebastian’s as the loud noises of the bar assault me. A girl is already singing very loudly and very off-key. Even through the vocal attack, I can hear people grumbling around me.

Suddenly, Sebastian pulls up short, and I bump into him. His warmth seeps into my skin, but even that delicious scent of his, can’t take my head off the reason why we’re here.

“Do you want to get something to eat?” Sebastian asks as he turns to face me.

Eat? He wants me to eat? Now?

Just thinking about it had my stomach rolling with nerves, which seemed like a recipe for disaster just waiting to happen.

“No, I’m good.” I shake my head.

“Okay.”

I’m still listening to people complain about the bad singing as Sebastian helps me sit on a bar stool.

“I think I changed my mind,” I lean against the table and yell to be heard over all the noises of the crowd.

“Changed your mind about what?”

“All of this. It was a stupid idea anyway. Let’s just…” I start to slide down, but Sebastian places his hand over mine, stopping me.

“It’s not a stupid idea, and you’ll be great. Besides, this is just for fun.”

I tilt my head subtly toward the table next to ours, where the grouchy and nasty comments are getting louder.

“This doesnotsound like fun.”

“Ignore them. They’ll forget about everything after a few more drinks.”

I let out a loud snort and mutter, “I think I might need a drink.”
