The corner of my mouth twitches. I was so caught. “Am not.”

My answer earns me a glare before her attention is once again on the class. I force my gaze to the front of the classroom when her leg bumps into mine under the table. I sneak my hand under the table, placing it over her knee. Although it’s getting colder outside, she’s still wearing those dresses, only with sheer tights underneath them. I place my hand on her knee, rubbing my thumb over the outside of her thigh.

I can hear her sharp intake of breath, see her fingers stop typing for a moment, and see the dusting of pink creep up her cheeks. The swell of satisfaction spreads through me at seeing her react to even the smallest of touches.

I keep my hand on her knee for the remainder of the class, silently counting down the minutes.

“Please read chapters eighteen through twenty before our next class,” our professor says after what feels like forever.

Fucking finally.

Closing my book, I get to my feet as Penelope slides her things into her bag. “Are we going to the music room?”

Hell to the no.

“Let’s just go home.”

Surprise flashes on Penelope’s face at my words. But that’s exactly what this has become. A home. And it wasn’t even this place. I couldn’t care less where I was if she was there with me.

“Oka—”

“It really is him,” somebody says behind me. “Sebastian Black.”

The hairs at my nape stand to attention at the sound of my name, making a shiver run down my spine. For a moment, I think I must have misheard it, but the look of shock on Penelope’s face confirms I’m not imagining it.

“So it is true! He’s been here this whole time.”

“What I want to know more about is what he is doing withher?”

Fuck, fuck, fuck.I look around the room for the first time, noticing all the gazes on us. People lean in to whisper to each other as they blatantly stare at us.

How the hell did they find out?

“Penny, what—” lover boy starts, but I’m already grabbing Penelope’s hand in mine. “Do you trust me?”

Penelope’s throat bobs as she swallows, but then she nods once, her fingers tightening around mine. “Always.”

That’s the only encouragement I need. Moving to the side, I glance at Henry, who’s watching us with curious eyes.

I tap the side of my leg. “Out.”

By some miracle, the dog listens. He’s still on leash, although Penelope took off his harness. I take it from her, sliding it over my shoulder along with my backpack as I pull Penelope into my side, making sure she has all her things before we get the hell out of there. I glare at all the curious onlookers as we move past them, daring them to say anything.

Thankfully, they keep quiet.

Shock or my death glare, I’m not sure which one is responsible, but I’ll take anything that I can get.

“What’s going on?” she asks as we exit to the hallway. “Did they just—”

“They know I’m here.”

“B-but… How?”

I grit my teeth, the irritation building inside of me. I wanted to know the very same thing. I guess I should feel lucky that I managed to stay under the radar as long as I did. But selfishly, I wished this lasted longer. I wanted more of this peace. And more than that, I wanted more uninterrupted time to be myself with her.

My hand tightens around Penelope’s. “I don’t know, but I’d love to have a one-on-one with whoever spilled the beans and show them just what I think about it.”

Pushing the door open, I come to a halt when I’m met with blinding flashlights.
