“Sounds good.”

Unlocking the door to my apartment, I turn my gaze to Penelope. Nobody should look that gorgeous after a full day of classes and being dragged across the campus, and yet, somehow, she does.

Her head dips down as she rummages through her bag. “I should probably grab Henry’s food first.”

At the mention of food, the dog’s ears perk up.

“Here they are.” She pulls the keys out in victory. Her head tilts, exposing that silky neck of hers as I move closer. “What do you want to eat? Maybe we could ord—”

“You,” I whisper as I turn her around. My mouth crashes against hers, swallowing whatever she wants to say as I lift her into my arms.

Birdy lets out a soft moan as her hands grip my shoulders to steady herself before she glides them over my neck and slips her fingers into my hair, tugging at the soft strands as her tongue meets mine.

Those sweet sounds coming from her mouth make my dick jolt in need.

Gripping her ass, I pull her closer as I walk us back into my apartment. I feel the dog brush past me before I shove the door closed with my foot and start toward the bedroom.

Food could wait.

Everything could wait.

Because I had a feeling once we pressed the start button, I wouldn’t like the direction our lives were going to take.

“Well, it was about damn time, Black.”

CHAPTERTHIRTY-TWO

SEBASTIAN

Icy chills run down my spine at the sound of the familiar voice.

Fucking hell.

Breaking the kiss my eyes snap open immediately, and gripping Penelope tighter to me. She is still in my arms, her big blue eyes turning into saucers as the panic hits her.

Shifting my attention to the living room, my eyes land on the woman sitting in the recliner, legs crossed as she stares at us, an unreadable expression on her face. “What the hell are you doing here, Sera?”

My best friend tilts her head to the side, one of her brows rising.

“What kind of greeting is that, Bash?” she scoffs, not even trying to hide her irritation with me.

“The kind of greeting unwelcome people get,” I don’t miss a beat. “How did you get into my apartment?”

“I picked up a trick here and there from one of my ex-boyfriends.”

Of course she did.

I roll my eyes at her. “I guess I shouldn’t be surprised that one of those losers taught you how to break in. You always knew how to pick them.”

“Hey now, there is no need to be rude about it. Picking locks can be a handy skill to know.”

“Tell that to somebody whose apartment you haven’t broken into,” I mutter dryly.

Why are we friends again?

Seraphina rolls her eyes at me as if she can read my mind. “Seriously, you should be thankful it’s me and not somebody else especially considering the mess you’ve gotten yourself into.”

My arms tighten around Penelope. The looks of our classmates, the reporters, and all the things that I’ve tried to push to the back of my mind are coming front and center. So much for avoiding my problems.
