“What the fuck are you talking about?” I grit through clenched teeth. Might as well get this over with once and for all. If Seraphina came all the way here, I suspected it had to be bad.

“Oh, Bash,” she sighs, her eyes moving from me to Penelope, who’s been quietly holding onto me this whole time. Now she’s the center of attention, and she can feel it.

Penelope squirms in my arms as Seraphina watches her with interest, slowly taking in every detail of the girl in my arms. Her gaze falls to my hands that are protectively holding her to me, and a smirk forms on her lips.

“And you must be the infamous Birdy.”

There is no malice in her voice as she says it, but something more like amusement, not that I’m surprised. Seraphina found this whole situation funny from the very get-go. If I had shared my location, she would have been here the first time I called her just so she could have a front-row seat to see me squirm.

“I’ve heard so much about you.”

Penelope flushes and clings to me tighter, ducking her head in the crook of my neck.

“Will you stop it? You’re embarrassing her.”

“It’s fine.” Penelope gives me a reassuring smile. “Put me down?”

It’s irrational. This need to pull her to me and never let go. That, more than anything, is the reason why I let out a long breath as I gently place her on her feet and take her hand in mine instead.

“C’mon, it appears we have company.” I pull her toward the living room and the open spot on the couch. Sliding down, I tug Penelope onto my lap.

“Sebastian!” she protests, trying to move to the side, but I don’t let go. Even I had my limits.

Seraphina smirks. “Sebastian, huh?”

“Zip it,” I bite out. “Why are you even here? How did you find me?”

If she knew where I lived, then I was pretty sure that the paparazzi could find my address too. Just the thought of it made my fingers curl into a fist.

I could deal with them harassing me, but if they tried to do something to Penelope...

The smile falls from Seraphina’s mouth, her face turning serious, which is never a good sign.

“I take it you haven’t seen the article?”

“What article?” I snarl the anger that’s been simmering quietly now coming to the surface.

“It’s nothing serious, but you know how the vultures can get, and with you being MIA for the past few months, they’ve been more noisy than usual.”

I remember all the flashes and reporters waiting outside of the music building when we left our class.

More noisy than usual was one way of putting it.

“Show me the article.”

Seraphina lets out a sigh, but she pulls out her phone and taps something out before handing it to me.

Leaning forward, I take it and look at the title.

“What do they say?” Penelope asks softly, her hand rubbing at my tense shoulders.

I look up to find her nibbling at her lip nervously. “Just a load of crap like always.”

I open the photo gallery, scrolling through the photos. The quality is shitty for the better part, but it’s definitely Penelope and me. There was no mistaking my tattoos or that platinum hair of hers.

The first photo was from that night when I kissed her for the first time. Somebody must have recognized me and taken the photo. There are several more of us kissing out in the rain—her hand in mine as I took her home. And then there were photos of us at the party. Her body nestled into mine as I taught her how to play beer pong, my lips pressed against the shell of her ear, and my fingers splayed over her stomach.
